She went into the women’s restroom with her four-year-old. Then she heard a man’s voice from the door
Her mind went to the worst possible scenario.
Bri Farley (@bri.n.far) accompanied her son to a restaurant bathroom. But while in the stalls, she feared that two people had ill intent toward her son after they mentioned his blue Crocs.
Farley explained on TikTok that her son was almost four years old, so she still needed to accompany him every time he needed to go on a potty break. They were holding hands as they walked into the women’s restroom.
“Obviously, I’m not sending my four-year-old to the men’s bathroom by himself,” Farley emphasized. There has been online debate about whether or not parents should bring their kids to the bathroom based on their child’s gender. One man even kicked up a fuss after a father accompanied his two small daughters to the women’s bathroom at a local QuikTrip. Farley, in this case, chose the women’s bathroom, feeling it would be the safer option.
“So, looking back in the moment, I thought that someone was judging me for bringing my four-year-old son into the women’s restroom,” Farley said. But in hindsight, Farley believes that what played out next was far more “sinister” than she initially thought. She went into the stall with her child, and at the time, Farley said no one else was in the bathroom.
Two strangers started talking about her son’s Crocs
Farley was by the toilet, while her son was near the stall door. Then, Farley said she heard a man’s voice from the bathroom door. “Little blue Crocs,” the man allegedly said. After that, Farley claimed a woman’s voice from a stall near the mother and son replied, “Yes, little blue Crocs.”
Farley said alarm bells went off in her head. She assumed the strangers were talking about her son because he was wearing blue Crocs. Farley was still squatting in the toilet when the door allegedly started to open. She put her hand against the door and told her son not to open it. However, her son denied pushing it open. Feeling that danger was lurking in the bathroom, Farley tried to finish her business as fast as she could when the door creaked open again.
“Excuse me!” Farley said firmly, and then the pushing allegedly stopped. The bathroom suddenly fell silent, and she didn’t hear anything after that. Still spooked by the situation, she started to pull her pants up as fast as she could, put her son behind her, and walked out of the stall. Farley said that when they walked out, the bathroom was empty again.
Mothers and children being targeted in public
“It was a very scary experience. You think to yourself, ‘Oh, that’s never going to happen to me.’ I feel like we were being targeted, we were being watched, and this is why I don’t like to leave the house without my husband,” Farley expressed. She said her husband was with their daughter at the restaurant’s dinner table, 20 feet away. However, she still felt afraid after the encounter.
“We’re very, very lucky, because at the moment, I didn’t realize or comprehend what was going on,” Farley added. But she isn’t the only woman with a child to report that a stranger has targeted them. One woman said that she and her infant almost got kidnapped at a Target parking lot by four strangers, only to get away because she drove as fast as she could.
