She Was Having Dinner Near the Eiffel Tower. Then a Stranger Approached Her for a Modeling Job
She wasn't blinded by the glamorous offer.
Melissa (@girlstalksense) was dining in Paris with her two friends. They had a view of the Eiffel Tower when a strange woman approached her and offered her a modeling job in Dubai.
“She was blowing smoke up my [expletive] for about fifteen minutes,” Melissa alleged on social media. The woman kept complimenting her throughout the night, going back and forth to her table to shower her with admiration. The woman introduced herself as a fashion designer, then she proposed a job for Melissa that might make others swoon.
“I’m a fashion designer. Like, I would love for you to wear my clothes. Like, we’re having a photoshoot in Dubai,” Melissa recalled the woman’s words. She nodded along, saying it was a “nice” job to have. Nevertheless, she didn’t agree to the glamorous modeling offer.
Then, the woman allegedly asked Melissa if she had plans after dinner. She asked her to come and meet up, but Melissa felt unsure about the offer. The alarm bells in her head went off, and all she could think about was sticking with her friends. It’s better safe than sorry, and one woman from London avoided an alleged human trafficking scheme disguised as a job interview she was invited to. If job portals can have suspicious listings, Melissa said she was shown a website with only four tops on it. At first, she thought it was because the designer was new.
The recruiter was persistent
But as Melissa’s group was getting up to leave, the woman approached them again. “You’ve got to get a picture in front of the tower!” the woman allegedly offered. Melissa handed her phone, and looking back, she regretted doing so. Melissa said, “She had my phone for ages, but when I looked at the pictures, it was six, and they were all blurred. Like, you know, when you just take them fast.”
“What was she actually doing on my phone?” Melissa wondered aloud. Because of how the photos turned out, she believed the woman was not truly interested in taking pictures of her. The woman asked Melissa’s friends to get in the frame with her, and she felt uneasy. Eventually, she asked for her phone back. The woman asked her if she didn’t want any more photos, and Melissa refused, desperate to get her device back. “I remember saying, ‘Give me my phone,’ more than once,” Melissa claimed. At first, she thought it could be an attempted robbery, believing that the woman could access her banking apps and transfer money to herself.
She didn’t believe she was being offered a modeling job
After watching another person’s account of nearly being trafficked in Paris, Melissa believes she survived a human trafficking scheme. The story allegedly followed the same pattern—a woman approached her for a modeling job, which turned out to be a scam. These incidents don’t always involve getting snatched from the side of the road, as one woman from Miami who believes her best friend was trafficked explained.
The woman added her on Instagram, which Melissa noted had barely any pictures. Although she believes she removed the woman from her followers and avoided a dangerous situation, Melissa is still reeling from her experience in Paris. She also fears that the woman downloaded a suspicious application on her phone to track her. Melissa hasn’t confirmed the existence of a tracking device and hasn’t given any further updates regarding her experience.
