Seth Meyers Warns Anne Hathaway ‘There’s Not Much You Can Do Except Watch’ After She’s Shocked ‘It Went This Way’

“It goes on autopilot.”

Anne Hathaway just spoke about a major life update on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and it’s equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. The 43-year-old star revealed she’s expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, and the couple is already calling this baby their “buzzer-beater.” If you’re not a sports fan, that’s the kind of last-second shot that wins the game.

According to NBC, Hathaway stopped by Meyers’ show on July 13, looking radiant in a custom white Zac Posen-designed GapStudio dress that showed off her baby bump. The conversation quickly turned to her pregnancy, and Hathaway didn’t hold back about how shocked she and Shulman were when they found out.

“It’s amazing. I mean, we knew what we were doing,” she joked, shrugging. “But we were so shocked it worked … we were just so shocked it went this way.” It’s a relatable mix of excitement and disbelief that anyone who’s ever been surprised by a positive pregnancy test will understand.

Hathaway asked Meyers for advice

Meyers, who has three kids of his own, had some wisdom to share. And it might just be the most accurate description of parenting three children you’ll ever hear. When Hathaway asked for advice, Meyers didn’t sugarcoat it. “Weirdly, it goes on autopilot,” he said. “Once there’s three, there’s not much you can do except watch. It goes from ‘terrified’ and then it just turns into like a TV show you binge.”

Hathaway’s reaction? Pure gold. “Okay, that’s great, because I love the channel right now, so it’s just more of that,” she said. “Basically, everyday you’re like, ‘Oh, new episode!'” If you’ve ever felt like your life with kids is just one chaotic, unscripted reality show, you’re not alone.

Hathaway and Shulman, who married in 2012, already have two sons: Jonathan, born in 2016, and Jack, who arrived in 2019. The couple celebrated their 11th anniversary last year in the most low-key way possible – curled up together watching Abbott Elementary for hours.

“I had a moment when I was curled up on his chest and we were watching, like, hour three of Abbott Elementary, and I was like, ‘I’m so happy,'” Hathaway told Meyers during a 2023 appearance. “I was like, ‘this is the right guy for me!'” It’s the kind of sweet, unfiltered moment that makes you realize even Hollywood stars are just regular people who love bad TV and cuddles.

Hathaway’s pregnancy announcement came a few weeks ago

According to Us Weekly, she shared a heartfelt Instagram video on June 19. The clip showed her walking toward the camera in a flowing white dress before revealing her baby bump with a big smile. She hugged her belly and then playfully ran off-screen, all set to the lyrics, “x Baby I’m yours x.” It’s the kind of announcement that makes you want to hit replay immediately.

But Hathaway’s journey to motherhood hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2024, she opened up about suffering a miscarriage nearly a decade ago. “The first time it didn’t work out for me,” she said. “So when it did go well for me, having been on the other side of it – where you have to have the grace to be happy for someone – I wanted to let my sisters know, ‘You don’t have to always be graceful. I see you and I’ve been you.’”

It’s a powerful reminder that even someone as successful and seemingly put-together as Hathaway has faced such a loss. Her willingness to share that experience is a gift to anyone who’s ever struggled with infertility.

Hathaway is all set for The Odyssey

Her latest pregnancy comes as she gears up for the release of The Odyssey, the upcoming Christopher Nolan film hitting theaters nationwide on July 17. This isn’t the first time Hathaway has worked with Nolan – she also starred in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Interstellar (2014).

During her Late Night appearance, she gushed about the director, calling the experience of working with him “the wildest thing.” “It’s just an amazing experience being on his set, because as brilliant as he is, as amazing as that mind is, his heart is just as powerful,” she said. “And I felt like in The Odyssey in particular… he built the movie with his mind and then he directed it with his heart.”

The timing of her pregnancy has even led to some playful banter about Nolan’s work schedule. When Meyers joked that she and Nolan were “on a break” between projects, Hathaway fired back with a laugh, “You can’t say we were on a break when I’m pregnant.” She then dropped a hilarious reference to Nolan’s 2017 film Dunkirk, saying, “I have, like, the way my body just was like, ‘No we weren’t, he was just… in Dunkirk.'”

Her openness resonates with many

Hathaway’s openness about her pregnancy, her past struggles, and even the chaos of raising three kids is refreshing. She’s not pretending that motherhood is always easy or that surprises, good or bad, don’t come with a mix of emotions. Instead, she’s embracing the messiness of it all, from buzzer-beater babies to binge-watching parenting moments.

As she prepares to welcome her third child, Hathaway is also stepping into a major role in The Odyssey, a film that promises to be another Nolan masterpiece. If her past collaborations with the director are any indication, this one’s going to be a must-see. And if her Late Night appearance is any clue, she’s handling the chaos of life with humor, grace, and a whole lot of heart.
