While navigating the high-profile life of the vice presidential family, she noted that the security protocol for the two-month-old feels unnecessary because he is always with her.
“He has a Secret Service detail. None of our newborns had that before,” the Second Lady told the Daily Wire in an interview published on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. She further explained her perspective on the matter by stating, “It’s sort of an absurdity because he’s always attached to me. He’s never anywhere far from me.”
Alec Neel Vance was born on July 19. Usha and her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance, shared the news of his arrival through a statement on Instagram. According to Page Six, the couple expressed their gratitude toward the medical staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their support during the birth. The Vances are also parents to Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and Mirabel, 4.

Usha recently discussed the challenges of maintaining normalcy while living at the Naval Observatory. She explained that it takes a dedicated team of staff members to ensure that the Vice President can remain involved in his children’s daily routines. J.D.
