Full Frontal With Samantha Bee delivers some delicious gems, but Bee’s “The Great Feminists in Feminism Herstory” series is among my favorites. It points out that despite all the gasps of indignation that are coming out in defense of Sarah Huckabee Sanders in light of Michelle Wolf’s truth bombs, the issue is that Huckabee-Sanders is an evil, complicit monster—who happens to be a woman.
“Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a fucking liar,” said Bee. “You are a hell of a role model for little girls everywhere who are smart and hardworking and completely evil.”
And this is really what it comes down to. There is no issue with all the sexism coming out of the White House from the people whom the White House has supported (cough-Roy Moore-cough), but it happens to them and suddenly it becomes an issue of feminist rage…or whatever conservative women call it when they don’t consider themselves feminist, but care about themselves.
While it would be totally uncalled for to make any gross comments about Huckabee Sanders, especially because it is her politics that make her horrible, we need to stop acting as though she would do or show any support to a woman that was not on her team.
Conservative women who are anti-choice work every day to undermine women’s ability to choose not just by pushing anti-abortion propaganda, but framing women who make the decision to get an abortion as ungodly monsters. There is no room for empathy or kindness.
In addition to talking about Huckabee Sanders, Bee also calls out Facebook and especially Mike Zuckerberg on his repeatedly “sorry-not-sorry” attempts at sadness throughout the years. “You know a man has fucked up when he’s forced to apologize as much as a woman.”
As someone who grew up with Facebook, I can honestly say I was largely unaware of its origins and privacy issues until The Social Network because I had become so used to it in my life, I did not question it. Just like I didn’t question MySpace which apparently did the exact same thing, damn it Tom!
Finally, the episode takes us to a Trump rally in Michigan to remind us all that if we don’t get out and fucking vote…we are gonna lose the midterms and then be right back at square one.
