There are very few instances where I see a trailer for a movie and am instantly charmed by it–but The Meddler is one of them. Directed and written by Lorene Scafaria, the movie stars Susan Sarandon as a recently widowed woman who moves to L.A. to be closer to her daughter, played by Rose Byrne.

Joining Sarandon and Byrne are J.K. Simmons as Sarandon’s character’s potential new love interest (who looks surprisingly rugged in a leather motorcycle jacket!) as well as Cecily Strong, Casey Wilson and Jason Ritter You can watch the trailer below:

Scafaria, who also directed Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (with Steve Carell and Keira Knightley), said that she partly based The Meddler on her relationship with her own mother. And we’re already big fans of everything stars Rose Byrne and Susan Sarandon are doing in their everyday lives–but this also looks like a fun, female-led project to get out there and support.

The Meddler opens in theaters on April 22nd.
