The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ Horror Show Is Coming, Featuring a John Carpenter Retrospective, Interactive Displays, and More
This One’s for All the Horror Lovers in the Audience

It’s time to get excited, horror fans, because the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is bringing the nostalgia with its upcoming exhibition, The Horror Show. The exhibit will be centered around the art and craft of horror cinema and will include a plethora of horrific delights.
In particular, The Horror Show will feature the retrospective John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness series and a 50th anniversary screening of Carrie. However, the 10-month exhibition will also feature props, interactive displays, costumes, and more throughout its run.
The exhibit doesn’t debut until September 26th, though, so there’s plenty of time to get prepared.
What Else Can Horror Fans Expect From The Horror Show?

Horror buffs will have plenty to geek out over at the exhibition, which the museum explained “will explore and celebrate horror cinema, highlighting select tropes and themes, all centered around the question: Why do horror films matter so deeply to so many?”
The Horror Show will begin with an introductory sound installation before branching off into six themed galleries. The themes are broken down into popular horror tropes — Gothic, Psychological, Science, Slasher, Religion, and Ghosts.
Inside these galleries, guests will encounter interactive displays, costumes, production materials, and even original props from some of the most well-known horror films of all time. A few of the movies showcased in the exhibit include A Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, The Shining, Get Out, and Ju-On (Ring).
Plus, for those wanting to experience less terrifying, more family-friendly horror, Variety reports that an interactive side exhibit called Zombies! will be part of The Horror Show.
Plus, There’s Even More to Discover

In addition to the chance to see props, costumes, and interactive displays, guests will enjoy public film screenings and programs. One such program is the John Carpenter retrospective. Meanwhile, at the Carrie screening, Sissy Spacek will appear.
Also on the schedule are a screening of The Craft on Halloween and the U.S. premiere of the 4K restoration of Horror of Dracula from 1958. Plus, in January, the museum will have a series on Hammer films, so there’s something for every type of horror fan here.
Though horror lovers will have to wait until September 26th for The Horror Show to open, the good news is that the exhibition will run until July 2027. That gives people plenty of time to plan their visit to Los Angeles and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
