Quentin Tarantino to Bring The Hateful Eight to the Stage

The Hateful Eight has already been performed as a staged reading, back in 2014 when the film script was leaked online and Quentin Tarantino was debating whether or not to go ahead and make the film. Now that the film has been made, released, and is making the rounds for Oscar season, Tarantino has expressed interest in bringing The Hateful Eight to the stage for real.

In an interview with The Wrap after last night’s Golden Globes, Tarantino mentioned that he already knows how he wants to approach the adaptation, which he also plans on directing:

I’ve thought it out completely. I’m just waiting for this [awards] season to be over so I can write it. I gotta put myself there and write it for this.

Apparently, Harvey Weinstein originally asked him to consider doing it as a play first:

Harvey actually — he tried to talk me into doing it as a play first. He said, ‘Let’s just say this out loud before we commit to doing the movie.’ And I was like, ‘Look, I could. But I like the mystery aspect and the mystery aspect will really only work in the movie. And I have the 70mm and I have the snow. So let me do that.’

He does love his 70mm. I still haven’t seen The Hateful Eight in theaters, but I definitely plan on it, as I’m a huge Tarantino fan and I’d love to see it the way he intended. I’m also intrigued by the prospect of a Tarantino play on the boards. I think he could do really amazing work on the stage. Here’s hoping he doesn’t try to act in it. Check out this video from 2014’s staged reading of The Hateful Eight:
