Many folks prefer a low-key proposal. However, proposing at Texas Roadhouse while actively chewing steak like it’s halftime at the Super Bowl? It seems the internet isn’t going to let that slide.

In a TikTok that has viewers dissecting every detail frame by frame, one man slid out of the booth mid-chew to propose in front of the entire restaurant. She said yes. The crowd applauded. TikTok then immediately launched an investigation into the location, the timing, and why this man seemingly couldn’t wait long enough to swallow his ribeye first.

According to the comments section, romance died somewhere between the honey butter rolls and the loaded mashed potatoes.

This restaurant chain’s online presence keeps growing and growing. The Mary Sue has covered stories dealing with the food quality, but it seems Texas Roadhouse has now turned into a special place for some customers.

Just a few months ago, The Mary Sue covered a story where a couple chose to do their gender reveal at the restaurant. They even roped in the waitress into doing the reveal with blue and red syrup. The internet also had plenty to say about that, just like Sophia’s (@kcmo.sophhhh) current situation.

Her clip has a whopping 870,000 views, signaling its controversial nature.

What Happened At This Texas Roadhouse?

Sophia thought it was a simple date at Texas Roadhouse, without a single clue about what her boyfriend had planned. The video was taken by someone standing a bit away from the booth they were seated at, with Sophia’s back facing the camera.

As the couple enjoys their meal, a waitress stops by their table. It seems she does her routine check to see if everything is OK while inconspicuously sliding a velvet box under the table to the boyfriend. The boyfriend had just shoved a piece of steak in his mouth. The waitress then makes a public announcement, calling the attention of all the guests.

With almost everyone’s attention on them, she then gives the floor to the boyfriend, Blake. He slides out of the booth and kneels beside Sophia, presumably asking her to marry him. During all this, Sophia seems very surprised and covers her face with her hands. There are a lot of cheers coming from both other employees and some guests. The video ends with them hugging and kissing.

Is it Tacky to Propose in Texas Roadhouse?

In classic sitcoms or movies, you’ll often see proposals happen in restaurants. Usually, with dimmed lighting and a hidden ring in the food. Now, people are begging others not to go this route. Not that proposing is bad per se, but there are lots of things to consider before doing so.

Countless blogs give advice on how to plan a restaurant proposal, but for high-end dining with 7-course meals and complimentary champagne. With Texas Roadhouse… things are a bit different. This is where Brides.com offers its advice.

While they do understand that sentimental value means a lot to certain couples, they advise that “individuals should try to stick with restaurants that are on the nicer end of the spectrum, rather than a location that’s extremely casual.” That being said, Texas Roadhouse might not be what they have in mind.

The article also details other tips, such as letting the restaurant help you. Another subheading is “Getting the Timing Right.” While it speaks more on when to propose–such as at the beginning or at the end of the meal–it doesn’t mention the awkward bits that seem to have caught up on Sophia and Blake. The advice more caters to not rushing into the proposal and not hiding the ring in the food. Nothing is said about mid-meal proposals.

Viewers Immediately Call for Madison Humphrey

Who is she? For the uninitiated, Madison Humphrey is a popular TikToker who reenacts viral videos for the sake of satire or comedy. Everyone was waiting for her to swoop in the comments and ask for permission to post about Sophia’s clip. One viewer says with over 10,000 likes says, “Here before Madison Humphrey.” Sophia replies, “I’m confused.”

A second viewer says, “I’m surprised madison humphrey isn’t here already.” Sophia responds, “And I’d decline the offer!!! I’m good.”

Other viewers immediately call out Blake’s chewing. A comment with 3,300 likes says, “That chomping on that food was all I could hear.” A second one says, “So you’re marrying someone who doesn’t close their mouth when they chew? Have fun.”

A third claims, “Still chewing while proposing lol.” Sophia replies, “That doesn’t matter.”

Some focus on the location. “In a Texas Roadhouse it’s lowkey diabolical,” shares one viewer. Another says, “Yeah, no, we breaking up immediately.”

A comment with almost 3,000 likes defends Sophia and Blake, saying, “Some of yall got a 10yr relationship and still no ring. Yall don’t know their story. Just be happy for them. Congratulations to both of you!”
