‘Poor analogy, especially for a Yale-educated lawyer’: JD Vance teases ‘arrangement’ with wife, compares it to the U.S.’s negotiations with Iran

On Saturday, while United States President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio enjoyed a UFC event, Vice President JD Vance was in Pakistan negotiating with Iranian leaders over a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran after more than a month of fighting a war initiated by the United States. However, despite what appears to be his best efforts, JD Vance failed to secure a deal with Iran and suggested that they were not agreeing to some of the non-negotiables for the U.S. government.
While JD Vance’s return to the United States after unsuccessful talks with Iran has caused considerable discomfort among people who are openly criticizing him and other members of the Trump administration on social media, there is another thing that is making him famous online that is somewhat related to his failed attempt to secure a peace deal with Iran. In a video that has become popular on X (formerly Twitter), Vance compares the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States to an “arrangement” he has with his wife, eliciting a wide range of reactions from netizens.
JD Vance brings up his wife in the context of Iran negotiations
Talk about saying the wrong things at the wrong time. Currently, JD Vance is going viral on the internet for something he said about the U.S.’s negotiations with Iran regarding reaching a peace deal that would end their ongoing conflict, which was first initiated by the United States in February 2026.
In a clip circulating on X, Vance is seen reflecting on one of the points stressed by the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, during negotiations: Iran’s “right to enrichment.” In this context, Vance referenced his wife, First Lady of the United States Usha Vance, and said that she has the “right” to skydive, but she does not “jump out of an airplane” because she has an arrangement with him, based on which she wouldn’t engage in such activity because JD wouldn’t want her to.
Trump’s Truth Social Post about Iran takes center stage
It is impossible that something as significant as Iran not agreeing to the terms set by the United States happens, and Donald Trump does not address it. For anyone wondering, he posted on Truth Social on April 12, 2026, about this issue, along with stating that the United States would begin “blockading” any ships trying to access the Strait of Hormuz.
An excerpt from his anger-filled post reads something like this: “So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an “ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT” basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, “There may be a mine out there somewhere,” that nobody knows about but them.”
