After Netflix came to the PlayStation 3 via a service that ran off a disc inserted into the console, PlayStation 3 owners immediately wished for downloadable Netflix software rather than being required to keep the disc in their system.

Finally, Netflix has announced that PlayStation 3 Netflix users will be getting that software on Monday that they’ve craved for over a year, along with the much desired feature that allows users to search Netflix on their console, rather than having to log into the website. But wait, there’s more!

Along with the disc-free service and content search, Netflix has updated the user interface, as well as ramped up the speed of playback. On top of this, a portion of the Watch Instantly content will be available in 1080p and Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound, and more content will be available with subtitles.

No longer will we be faced with the scourge of having to get up from our beds and switch the Netflix disc with game discs. Amen!
