Oregon woman catches man recording her at Planet Fitness. Then she reports the incident at the front desk: ‘Do you not have cameras??’

A woman caught a man recording her at Planet Fitness, leading to a confrontation. But it didn’t go the way she hoped or expected.
Hayley Kemper (@hey_hayley96) posted a video with more than 186,000 views. In it, she described a recent interaction she had in a Salem, Oregon, Planet Fitness location that has her warning others to stay away.
But it’s not just because someone was recording her. According to the woman, the location’s staff handled the situation “poorly.”
What Happened At This Planet Fitness?
Kemper explained in her video that she normally likes to find an open area without many people in it to work out. During one particular Planet Fitness trip, however, she felt the presence of someone behind her.
The content creator went to get a spray bottle, and she noticed a man standing in the middle of the gym with nothing to do. She also noticed he had a phone in his hand.
“ I can feel him watching me. And not that he’s, like, walking with every move that I make, but he is walking to make sure he’s staying close to me during all of this, which I find very weird and very uncomfortable,” Kemper said. “ So instead of, like, walking straight back to where my keys are and stuff, after I put the mat back, I start walking back and I circle around. And I get to where I’m behind him, and I see he is on his camera actively recording.”
Kemper called the man out almost immediately, but he denied taking any photos or videos of her. She tried to ask him whether she could see his phone, but he refused. She let the situation go.
A woman came up to her and told Kemper she had noticed the man recording women in general.
“ I’m so glad you stopped him and said something, because I saw him recording you, and I was just about to come up and tell you before you, like, this interaction or whatever. And I felt like he was recording me earlier. He’s been here for a while, hasn’t used any machines, and he’s had his phone out the entire time,” Kemper recalled the woman saying.
They decided to go to the front desk together to report the issue.
How Did Planet Fitness Address The Situation?
The two women went to the front desk and reported the encounter. Kemper said she a man with a tank top and tattoos about the incident.
But she ended up feeling annoyed by the encounter after she heard his response.
“So we tell him and he’s like, ‘Wow, yeah, um, do you know if he left or not?’ And I said, ‘Well, I think he’s in the locker room. Do you wanna go check?’ And he goes, ‘Well, we didn’t really see what happened, but thanks for telling us ’cause, like, if more people come up and start telling us, like, that it, this keeps happening, then we will have grounds to talk to him and maybe even terminate his membership,’” she recalled.
Kemper tried to explain that she didn’t even know the woman she was with, and that they both had separate experiences noticing the man recording individuals in the gym. Kemper then asked if a manager could review footage from that day to confirm what they were saying.
The man then told the women that staff “didn’t really see” what they experienced. He allegedly told Kemper she could stay behind to identify the man. Kemper got the distinct impression that nothing was going to happen, and she left.
She Cancels Her Membership
The content creator left the location “multiple voicemails” reporting the encounter. Despite this, she said no one called her back.
The content creator decided to cancel her membership. So she walked into the gym and requested it. The man working at the time happened to be the same one Kemper reported the issue to, so when he asked why she was canceling, she clearly explained her position.
“ I said… ‘I’m pretty sure you were the one working during this whole ordeal, and I felt like you handled it so poorly. And then your entire team, like nobody got back to me afterwards.’ And he was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I do remember that, yeah. So where are you gonna go work out now?’ And I told him I got a membership down the street, and he goes, ‘Oh, I work out there too. I’ll see you there. All right. Well, your membership is canceled. Have a good day,’” Kemper said.
She said no one called her back or even reported the situation after she canceled.
“I’m pretty sure that guy still is a member there just going around recording girls’ butts while they’re working out and getting completely uncomfortably close to them, and knowing he’s backed by Planet Fitness ’cause they’re not gonna do anything about it,” Kemper said.
Have Other Women Experienced the Same Thing?
Kemper isn’t even the only person who’s experienced non-consensual recording in a Planet Fitness Gym. In California, a man was accused of recording at least 47 women while partially nude between July and December 2025. Eight women subsequently sued Planet Fitness and the man accused of recording them.
In New York, a woman said she was “deceptively recorded” inside a Medford Planet Fitness in December 2025. She reported the situation but was allegedly “stopped” from describing the encounter by a staff member, according to News 12 Long Island.
Some sources say that Planet Fitness has an explicit no-recording policy, although it’s unclear if the chain has an explicit corporate policy that dictates how employees should proceed when a member describes a potential rule violation.

What did commenters say?
Overall, commenters were not pleased after listening to Kemper’s experience. Viewers said that while the gym didn’t technically have any evidence the man was recording her and the other woman, it should have looked into the situation further.
“Planet Fitness calls itself a ‘judgment-free zone,’ but they need to enforce it by having employees walk around. Nobody should feel followed or recorded just trying to exercise,” one viewer said.
Another commenter said, “I will NEVER join Planet Fitness because of how they handled your situation.
The Planet Fitness TikTok account responded to the post and left a comment that said, “We want to look into this! pls dm us when you can.” Kemper has not posted any subsequent updates regarding the situation.
