Things We Saw Today: Peter Parker’s Sad Into the Spider-Verse Nickname

Peter Parker is always going to make me cry, isn't he?

**Major spoilers for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and also please go see this movie.**

By now, you’ve had the chance to see Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so you probably know of the fate of Peter Parker in Miles Morales’ universe.

Voiced by Chris Pine, this Peter Parker ends up dead at the hands of Kingpin when Peter stops Wilson Fisk from branching into another universe to bring Vanessa and their son into his world.

So what was that Peter Parker called in order to differentiate between him and the dark-haired Peter Parker we ended up meeting thereafter? RIPeter. That’s right, get your tissue boxes. RIPeter is perfect in the movie, taking on his role as Spider-Man without complaint and even willing to help Miles and bring him into the Spider-Man world in a way that Peter never received himself.

Too bad he’s dead before he can help Miles, and Miles gets stuck with Jake Johnson’s Peter. Seeing that “RIPeter” nickname after the fact hurts. Those in charge knew we’d love our brief glimpse at this Peter and be hurt by it. (Or maybe that’s just me but you get the point.) Either way, RIPeter is sweet, cute, and sings a lovely Christmas song, so we’ll just sit here and cry about what could have been for a little while.
