Obsession’s Inde Navarrette’s Future Career Is Coming Into Focus With Latest Announced Role

Though Inde Navarrette had appeared in the fourth season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and played a key role on Superman & Lois on The CW, she became a breakout star thanks to her phenomenal turn in 2026’s surprise hit Obsession, a film about the danger of wishes. Fans and critics alike have been eager to see where her career takes her next, as Navarrette has so far been extremely calculated and a bit cautious with the roles she takes on.

It was recently announced that she was attached to play Rogue in the upcoming X-Men film from Marvel. Now, she’s also been announced as attached to a sci-fi thriller that Apple Original Films recently acquired, called The Waffle House Index. Between the two and a few other updates, the trajectory of her future career is slowly coming into focus.

The Waffle House Index Sounds Like a Fantastic Choice for Navarrette

For those not in the know, the Waffle House Index is a real thing, used as an informal barometer of just how dangerous a hurricane is based on the level of service the local Waffle House provides during a storm. If a nearby Waffle House is still serving 24/7 and there’s no severe damage, the index is Green. Yellow means limited service and a low supply of food. Red is bad news all around, as it means the Waffle House is closed (something that rarely happens) and conditions are incredibly unsafe.

In The Waffle House Index film, written by Andrew Nunnelly, the focus is on a waitress at a Waffle House having a really terrible day. It only gets more terrible when someone shows up with a gun during her shift, and from there things get weird. As in a mass flood, nuclear explosion, killer crocs, aliens, and a magical bunker hidden beneath the Waffle House kind of weird.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, one source said about Navarrette being attached to the project, “Apple is the ultimate star-driven studio so this is a sign of how big a star Inde Navarrette is now.”

Navarrette Hasn’t Only Become a Star, but Also a Pop Culture Icon

Curry Barker’s Obsession grossed around $505 million worldwide and turned Navarrette not only into a star but a pop culture icon. There was talk of Oscar nominations, and she became the It Girl overnight. Her Obsession character is even featured at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights now. (It will also be interesting to see how many people go as her character for Halloween 2026).

While it’s all likely been a lot for Navarrette, having more of her talent in front of the camera is sure to cement her newly minted starlet status further. It gives her fans more opportunities to enjoy her work and see other facets of her personality, as well as how she fares as characters other than her (so far) most famous one.

There’s no word on a potential release date for The Waffle House Index. However, as of now, the X-Men project is slated to debut in 2028.
