New York Woman Alarmed by $12 Croissant at Popular Bakery. Then an Apparent 57-cent per Croissant Costco Delivery Arrives: ‘Insane’

A New York TikToker says a visit to a popular Manhattan bakery took an unexpected turn after she spotted what appeared to be a delivery of Costco croissants moments after paying $12 for a pistachio croissant. The viral video, posted by Tallbrowngirlll I NYC (@tallbrowngirlll), sparked debate online about bakery markups and whether some cafes source pastries from wholesale retailers instead of baking them from scratch. The creator captioned the post, “Le Parisien patisserie – literal robbery.”
In the TikTok post, the creator explains that she had just purchased a pistachio croissant for $12 at Le Parisien Bakery in New York City when something caught her attention. “I can’t believe this. We’re at this croissant, like little cafe and we got this pistachio croissant for $12. And I was like, this is insane for a price,” she says before turning the camera toward the entrance.
According to the video, a delivery worker then entered carrying what appeared to be boxes of croissants from Costco, a discount retailer. “And then I turn around, look at this. This guy, delivery guy just came in. Oh, my god. What’s more? Croissants are from Costco, huh? Costco. Absolutely. Insane. Insane. Insane. Don’t come here. I don’t recommend,” she says.
One commenter noted, “That’s 24x the price!”
Le Parisien Bakery, located near Times Square, markets itself as a French bakery and cafe offering breakfast, pastries, sandwiches, desserts, and specialty coffee. Its online menus include classic croissants as well as filled varieties, including pistachios
The establishment’s website notes, “At Le Parisien, our skilled artisans create a symphony of flavors with our house-made pastries, crafted with the utmost care and using only the finest ingredients. From flaky croissants to delicate macarons, every bite is a testament to our commitment to fresh, exceptional quality.”
The video does not independently verify where the croissants ultimately served to customers came from. Le Parisien has not publicly responded to the allegation as of publication.
Costco, meanwhile, sells its Kirkland Signature butter croissants in packs of 12. Same-day delivery listings show a current price of about $6.80 per package, or roughly 57 cents per croissant before taxes and delivery fees.
Many TikTok viewers focused on the apparent Costco price difference. “That’s a wild profit! they are 50 cents each. that’s 24x the price!” one commenter wrote.
Another suggested the practice may not be unusual in the food industry, alleging, “Unless you’re seeing the croissants come from the back on fresh baked racks, coffee shops are always pulling this.”
