‘Wow, dude. You’re an idiot’: Kelly Clarkson goes to war with small Brooklyn business after ‘Pretty Woman’ moment

A small business in Brooklyn has come under fire from Kelly Clarkson of all people after she took to X to accuse the shop workers of treating her as if she wouldn’t be able to afford an item in the store.
Clarkson claimed that she “drove all the way to Brooklyn” to check out the small shop called Art of Play. She said the shop seemed “rad”, and she had a few items in mind that she wanted. However, she claimed that when she asked about one item that was apparently for sale, she “was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me.” She went on to add, “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.”
The singer and daytime talk show host likened the moment to the iconic scene from Pretty Woman, in which a rather snooty shop worker refuses to serve Julia Roberts’ character after assuming she wouldn’t be able to afford the clothes in the shop. “y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman,” Clarkson sarcastically wrote.
The shop responds to Kelly Clarkson
After Clarkson publicly chastised the shop, Art of Play took to Instagram to try to quell the flames. According to the post, the whole thing was just a big misunderstanding. Apparently, Clarkson had wanted to purchase a “one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton.” However, the bird, referred to as “Molly,” apparently played an “important role in the magic shows” and was permanently attached to the wall and not for sale.
The post went on to sympathize with Clarkson’s feeling of being judged while shopping, but claimed that everyone was welcome.
Clarkson fired back with her own response to Art of Play, accusing the business of lying claiming that Molly had a $15,000 price tag and sharing a picture which seems to show the automaton bird with a price tag attached. “So the whole conversation we had when I asked you if it was for sale whilst pointing to the price tag hanging on the wall with the title Singing Bird didn’t happen,” she wrote. “You’re not only rude, you’re also a liar,” she added.
Clarkson also claimed that she did support small businesses “because I was literally at a small business trying to purchase things.” The viral argument has been met with mixed responses, with some taking Clarkson’s side and others siding with Art of Play.
