She went to a McDonald’s with a friend at 13, then they got kidnapped and almost forcibly married in Nigeria ‘This guy’s delusional’

Florreinavu (@florreinavu) from Toronto was thirteen when she and her friend went out to a local McDonald’s. On their way home, she claimed that a taxi driver kidnapped them and hit her with a disturbing proposal.

“My house, from this McDonald’s, was literally, maybe, a five-minute drive,” the content creator told TikTok. The fast-food chain was nearby, just a fifteen-minute walk from home. They dined, dipping their fries in McFlurries, and then started walking to the bus stop. Then, they saw two Black men from the banquet hall. The men were allegedly looking at them from across the street.

At the time, Florreinavu was only thirteen. Her friend, by contrast, was only fifteen. They ignored the men’s stares and kept walking until they reached a nearby bus stop. The McDonald’s party was ending, but the men still stood there. She and her friend kept to themselves as they waited for the bus. Later, they realized the bus wasn’t coming, and their phones were low on power. Florreinavu clarified that there were no Ubers or Lyfts when the story occurred, but then the two men who were looking at them pulled up. They asked the girls if they were okay and offered them a ride home.

One of the men allegedly introduced himself as a taxi driver but said he was off duty. Florreinavu said he had proof that he was a taxi driver and allegedly reassured them that there would be no harm. She admitted that their guard was let down, and as a Black woman, she thought he gave off “African uncle” vibes. So they boarded the car, and Florreinavu says she still regrets it.

Kidnapped after a McDonald’s trip

They were only one light away from her house when Florreinavu asked the man to pull over at the nearby bus stop. However, the man allegedly kept driving. Florreinavu no longer felt safe, so when the next stoplight came, she tapped her friend and suggested that they jump out of the car. However, unlike this lucky traveler who escaped a dangerous Uber ride in Turkey, Florreinavu and her friend couldn’t open the door. They realized that the child lock was activated.

Part 1 | I’m aware that for most this will be entertainment, which is fine. I just want you to still understand this was real and traumatizing. The goal is to spread awareness. Yes, I was young but age does not stop situations like this from happening. Nor does your gender, I’m just sharing from a women’s pov. Well truly the lil girl that I was, who let her guard down. If you have ever been through anything like this or know someone that has.. I’m so sorry. It’s not something to ever joke about. I pray although my delivery was light, due to how I’ve healed and processed this all that you know I don’t take this lightly.

They both knew they were in trouble. She and her friend begged the man to let them out, but he kept reassuring them as he drove to the next location. Florreinavu and her friend were forced out of the ride when they pulled up to an unknown building, where the man’s apartment was. Once inside the apartment, she told her friend to play nice. Even though they insisted on going home, the men allegedly said, “That’s not happening.”

The driver allegedly kept telling stories about his life and how he supposedly has a lot of money. He also claimed that he only drives the taxi on the side, but Florreinavu wasn’t interested in hearing it. She kept looking at her friend, whom the other man had pulled toward the kitchen.

“Fast forward, he starts telling me how he has a daughter my age, and he knows he can’t marry me here, but he wants to marry me in Nigeria,” she alleged. Some men know it’s a crime to entertain a minor, like this man who cornered a 17-year-old at a grocery store for her number. Florreinavu was floored by his rambling, claiming he was already planning to fly her to Nigeria. She commented, “This guy’s delusional.”

Escaping their captors

When the driver went into the washroom and his accomplice went into the bedroom, the girls ran to the door and booked it out of the apartment. They kept running, and the men allegedly chased them with their car. After ten minutes of running, they got into the nearby 7-Eleven. In the convenience store, Florreinavu said two police officers were there. But because they were shaken, they didn’t approach the officers and hid at the back of the store.

Part 2 | Thank you all for your thoughtful comments & sharing your stories with me. I pray that you continue to heal from any trauma you’ve been through & never be too scared to speak up for yourself. I was so hesitant to share this story but I’m glad that I did.

She said the officers kept looking at them, but they only pretended to keep shopping. They didn’t ask the police for help. Instead, they planned to wait for the nearby bus. When it came, she and her friend got home unscathed.

“We got home to my house, and we never spoke about it again,” she said. Florreinavu advised others to stay alert, saying an unfortunate event like this could happen to anyone at any age.
