Nashville Woman Finds a Home Depot Bucket With Dish Soap Under the Counter at a Dental Office. She Can’t Believe What They’ve Been Using on Patients

Taking a stand.

A Nashville dental hygienist walked out of a temporary assignment after allegedly finding instruments soaking in a Home Depot bucket filled with Dawn dish soap and water. Ann Taylor Lawrence, @anntaylor.lawrence on TikTok, who posts about dentistry and patient safety, shared her experience in a raw, emotional video that quickly went viral. She said she refused to work at the office after allegedly discovering expired supplies, dirty instruments, and mold growing in the water lines.

The video has sparked widespread outrage and renewed conversations about patient safety, hygiene standards, and trust in healthcare. Lawrence said she arrived at the unfamiliar dental office and immediately noticed severe sanitation issues. She described the conditions as “disgusting,” pointing out that all the cavity wipes and spray bottles had expired in 2019.

When she asked for clean instruments, she alleges that she was directed to a Home Depot bucket containing dish soap and water. “I was like, is this since, like, are y’all joking?” she said in the video. She asked about the autoclave, a machine used to sterilize instruments, and was reportedly told it didn’t work. “That’s disgusting. I’m not doing this,” she responded.

Lawrence had had enough

The office allegedly served an underserved community, making the situation even more infuriating. “The patients that this clinic was seeing were patients that were in it, like, a very underserved community. And not a lot of them had access to healthcare. And they had probably saved for a long time to be able to get the care that they needed,” Lawrence claimed.

my friends and family know i am very protective over those that i care about. My patients health and safety is one thing i will never compromise on. I will forever protect those around me and i will always speak up for those who cannot or don’t know how. I will not be sharing this offices information at this time while i talk with the dental board and the health care facilities commission but i promise you i am going to do everything in my power to make sure no patient is treated in an unsafe environment or taken advantage of any more. #medical #dentistry #dentalhygienist #storytime #fyp

She told the front desk staff she would not compromise patient health and walked out, despite needing the money. “Do I need money? Yes, but I’m never gonna f—ing hurt somebody or do anything that’s gonna hurt somebody intentionally,” she said.

The video resonated with millions of viewers

Many praised Lawrence for her stance. One person commented, “As a chemo patient, this could literally kill me. Thank you for caring.” Another said, “Thank you for reporting them. How freaking disgusting and awful.”

Others urged her to escalate the issue, with one commenter saying, “Call the state board, call the dental board, call the medical board, EVERYONE. THE NEWS. You ARE doing the RIGHT THING.” Another added, “That’s medical racism honestly. I hope you report them to everyone.”

Lawrence later posted a follow-up video addressing the overwhelming response. She confirmed she had reported the office to multiple agencies, including the Dental Board, OSHA, and Tennessee compliance facilities. “I’ve posted multiple screenshots showing the paperwork that I filled out, showing the submission forms,” she said.

She explained she couldn’t share identifying details yet to avoid interfering with the investigation. “I don’t want anything to get in the way of this investigation. I don’t want, you know, any, like, false allegations or claims,” she said.

Her second video offered more details about the office’s conditions

“There’s no water unit on the dental chair. Like, this is connected to the wall, so, like, the mold that’s coming out of these lines, they would literally have to rip the walls up, completely redo the water system,” she alleged. She noted the staff appeared young and said she never saw a doctor during her time there. She also mentioned the office was located in South Nashville, though she didn’t specify the exact location.

The incident has raised serious questions about oversight in dental practices, particularly those serving the most vulnerable communities. Lawrence’s decision to speak out highlights the challenges healthcare workers face when they encounter unethical or unsafe practices. Her willingness to walk away, despite financial pressures, underscores the importance of patient safety over profit.

This isn’t the first time concerns about dental clinics have made headlines. Issues like such clinics cutting corners, using expired or unsanitary supplies, or failing to properly sterilize equipment are particularly alarming in underserved areas, where patients may already face barriers to accessing care. Lawrence’s video has reignited discussions about the need for stricter regulations and better enforcement to protect patients.

For now, Lawrence is focusing on her next steps

She promises to share more details once the investigation is complete. “I will be sharing, like, everything that will destroy them in the next couple of days,” she said. Until then, she’s taking a much-needed break. “If you don’t hear from me, it’s cause I’m on my bachelorette trip and I’m getting hammered cause I need to get out of town,” she said.

The response to Lawrence’s videos shows how deeply these issues resonate with the public. One commenter acknowledged the financial struggle Lawrence faced, saying, “The long pause after the ‘I have so much debt.’ You need the money, but not at the expense of others. So many of us know that feeling. You’re not only in the right, you are an incredible person.”

Lawrence’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of accountability in healthcare. It also highlights the role of social media in amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard. As the investigation unfolds, many are hoping for meaningful changes to prevent similar incidents in the future. For now, Lawrence’s actions have already made a difference by shining a light on a critical issue and inspiring others to demand better.
