Quackers the duck and Max the husky

Monday Cute: The Story of Max and Quackers, a Friendship For the Ages

Recommended Videos

Paula Abdul and MC Skat Kat said it best: Opposites attract. And just like that mixed-species pair, Max and Quackers have built a strong relationship despite seemingly not having anything in common.

Twelve-year-old husky, Max, and four-year-old duck, Quackers (yes. Quackers!) are best friends, and have been ever since Max’s former BFF, another husky named Sasha, died. Max was heartbroken.

Seeing that Max was lonely, his family adopted Quackers to keep him company, and they quickly formed a bond! Now, they do everything together, as you can see in the above video. “He was without any friends, and so Max would sit next to his pen all the time and I think they just kind of bonded that way,” their owner Patrick Riley told People Magazine. “After we let him out, they just never left each other’s side.”

Even cuter, they’ve become a staple in Strout, Minnesota, since one of their favorite places to lounge is along the side of a country road. Drivers often stop to catch a glimpse and take pictures of the odd pair, and the two friends have made their family local celebrities.

Now normally, I’m not a fan of ducks, but Quackers is cool, and if he and Max can form a bond like this, maybe there’s hope for the rest of us!
