Maryland woman allegedly punches store worker over long line, then leaves her wallet and phone behind for police to find

She made it very easy for police to identify her.

A Maryland woman allegedly turned a complaint about waiting in line into a physical fight with a store employee. Police say she then returned with a gun, but identifying her wasn’t particularly difficult. She had reportedly left her wallet and cellphone behind on the counter.

Tiffany Deshaunta Booze, 38, of Fort Washington, is accused of assaulting an employee at a store in Waldorf’s Smallwood Village Center on September 2. According to KRCR News Channel 7, Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at around 6 p.m. following reports of an assault involving a firearm.

Investigators said Booze became hostile to an employee over the long wait in line. A second worker opened another register so she could complete her purchase, but the situation allegedly escalated anyway.

Before leaving the store, Booze reportedly punched the first employee in the face. Police said that sparked a brief fistfight before the customer left the store.

Police say Booze returned with a gun

Investigators said Booze was seen walking back toward the store moments later while displaying a gun with a blue-and-black frame. She allegedly left the area again before deputies arrived.

Customer disputes with retail workers have escalated into alleged violence elsewhere. In Georgia, a Dollar Tree customer allegedly tried to run over an employee following a confrontation inside the store. Another peculiar incident saw a Pennsylvania man allegedly throw an arrow at an employee during what authorities described as a larger crime spree.

In Booze’s case, authorities had an unusually convenient way of figuring out who they were looking for. Investigators said she left her wallet and cellphone on the store counter, making her easy to identify. She returned to the area shortly afterward and was taken into custody.

Officers reportedly find the gun

Investigators also located Booze’s vehicle in the parking lot and said they could see a blue-and-black pistol inside. Officers obtained a search warrant and subsequently recovered the gun.

Booze faces first-degree assault, five weapons violations, and other related charges stemming from the incident, according to authorities. She was released from the Charles County Detention Center on electronic monitoring on September 3.
