Man accused of bizarre crime spree allegedly throws an arrow at restaurant employee 

An arrow allegedly thrown at a restaurant employee sounds bizarre enough on its own. According to Pennsylvania authorities, however, it was only one part of an alleged crime spree that has now left a 58-year-old man behind bars without bail.

Walden Boyer of Youngwood, Pennsylvania, is accused of attacking a motorist before turning up at a nearby Plaza Azteca, where police say he chased an employee around the parking lot with an arrow and eventually threw it at him. The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office confirmed on September 15 that Boyer was denied bail and faces charges including robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, aggravated assault by vehicle, simple assault, theft, and recklessly endangering another person.

The allegations apparently didn’t end once Boyer was detained, either. Authorities say he threatened the lives of multiple Pennsylvania State Police troopers while in custody, adding yet another chapter to a sequence of events that reportedly began in traffic and somehow ended with an arrow flying across a restaurant parking lot.

Police say the incident began with another driver

According to WTAE, Pennsylvania State Police were called to a “vehicle incident” on Route 30 in Hempfield Township shortly before 2 p.m. on September 11. A driver told police that Boyer pulled in front of him and stopped in traffic.

When the driver attempted to go around him, Boyer allegedly rammed the rear of his vehicle. The criminal complaint states that Boyer then got out and repeatedly punched the driver.

The driver told investigators that Boyer demanded his wallet and threatened to kill him and other people at the scene before leaving. Police were soon called to another incident nearby, this time at Plaza Azteca, over reports that someone was possibly wielding a knife. It wasn’t a knife. It was an arrow.

A restaurant employee told police that Boyer had positioned his vehicle in the parking lot in a way that prevented customers from leaving. When the employee confronted him, Boyer allegedly returned to his vehicle, retrieved an arrow, and began chasing the employee through the parking lot while threatening to kill him. The employee ran toward the restaurant, but Boyer allegedly threw the arrow at him before he made it inside. Police subsequently detained Boyer at the scene.

His arrest reportedly didn’t end the threats

Boyer allegedly continued making threats after police took him into custody. The district attorney’s office says he threatened the lives of multiple troopers. The aftermath has since moved beyond the restaurant parking lot. Boyer remains jailed after being denied bail, and KDKA Radio reports that he faces more than a dozen felony charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 22.

What initially sounds like a bizarre story about someone allegedly throwing an arrow at a restaurant worker has a more serious context. Police say the same afternoon involved an attacked motorist, repeated death threats, customers allegedly prevented from leaving a parking lot, an employee being chased with an arrow, and further threats after Boyer was taken into custody.

Apparently, throwing the arrow wasn’t the end of the alleged crime spree. It was simply pointing in the direction of his other offenses.
