You might have heard that Marvel has an Avengers movie coming out later this week (considering that it’s already sold $120 million in tickets in the United States alone). Well, it finally had its premiere last night, shedding some light, at long last, on the secretive movie, and filling the internet with early impressions of Avengers: Endgame.
There’s a lot riding on this one—not in that Marvel has anything to worry about in terms of making money, but for the fans who have anticipated this ending, of sorts, for a long time. We always knew that the nature of the film industry and actor contracts would mean that the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s founding heroes could only go on for so long before it had to reach some kind of conclusion, and after over ten years, that moment is finally upon us.
And no matter how much we’ve prepared, it sounds like we’re not ready.

Of course, no one wants the movie spoiled for them, so most of the impressions keep things vague. The premiere even left out the Marvel staple post-credit scene, cutting off the credits entirely, so even those who saw the movie last night probably have more surprises in store (unless, of course, the big surprise there is that there isn’t one to heighten the feeling of an ending amid an ongoing universe).
Still, those who were in attendance have shared plenty about how the movie made them feel and how well it paid off 10 years of fans’ investment, and the verdict is good so far:
So I just saw #AvengersEndgame, and you guys aren’t ready for shiiiiit. All the theorizing didn’t prepare you for this. I cried a lot, I flung my hands in the air and screamed out loud. It’s incredible. #EndgamePremiereLA #Avengers #Endgame

All I’m going to say about @Avengers #EndGame is that I am an emotional wreck and can’t stop crying

I quite liked #AvengersEndgame. Lively, well-written, funny and moves along very briskly considering just how much story there is. I may have even teared up.

The fastest 3 hours (and 11 years) of my life. Endgame was everything. #AvengersEndgamePremiere ✨

Man #AvengersEndgame kicked my ass. It was an epic conclusion to 11 years of films. It had laughs, incredible action and absolute emotional rollercoaster. It was the series finale for these cast of characters that I had been hoping for. Congrats to all for pulling off the feat.

#AvengersEndgame is A LOT. Too much at times. But wow the payoff is huge. Left me proud to have invested over a decade in a franchise that delivers an inspiring exploration of what it means to be family & a hero. (Endgame also now has one of my favorite shots in the entire MCU.)

#AvengerEndgame is an immensely satisfying payoff, not just to Infinity War but to all the films that came before. This is why the MCU. (And I say this as someone who was not especially enamored of Infinity War, FWIW.) ♥️💙💜

Sure, we would’ve been surprised if the reactions had been any different, and with a 3-hour movie, we’re also not surprised that we’ve also seen hints at imperfections, but it’s still exciting that a running theme through several reactions has been that Endgame pays off the entire MCU up to now, not just that big Infinity War cliffhanger. Strap in; it’s going to be quite a week.
