Is using zero gravity a cheat or a challenge?

You know a meme has truly made it when it makes it to outer space. The crew on board the International Space Station (ISS) recently shared their shot at the Mannequin Challenge on Twitter, and they took full advantage of the low-gravity environment to up the ante. Space just makes everything cooler–even if this meme usually drives you a little crazy.

For the uninitiated, the Mannequin Challenge is a meme where all the participants try to stand as still as they can, in the most difficult-to-hold poses possible, while another participant films the whole affair. The cast and crew of A Wrinkle in Time previously took on the challenge, so it had already gone science fictional even before the ISS got a hold of it.

This Mannequin Challenge video is only the latest of the International Space Station’s delightful internet antics. They’ve previously chased one another in a gorilla suit, celebrated Towel Day like true nerds, and read books to children from space. In the new year, we can only hope that the ISS continues to be a gift not only to the world’s scientific community, but to the internet at-large.
