Man thought he handed the cop his registration, but it was an expired ticket. Now he wants to volunteer for jail
Sudden escalation
Everyone experiences moments of weakness when, under stress, they act contrary to what is expected. Christian (christiancooks99) encountered a similar situation when a cop pulled him over, and now he wants to volunteer for jail, as he mentioned in a message on the video.
“So I just got pulled over, and the cop comes up to the window when he does his typical license, registration, insurance,” Christian said in a TikTok video. Recalling what the officer asked him, he added, “‘Do you know why I pulled you over today?’ and I go, ‘No.’ Isn’t that your job?’ He didn’t find it funny. He didn’t find it funny one bit, so of course we’re off to a hot start.”
Christian then revealed that the cop accused him of texting while driving. He said he tried to clarify that he was using maps, but the officer wouldn’t listen or accept it as the truth. Realizing he was playing a losing game, Christian apparently handed the officer the documents he had asked for. However, immediately after that, the cop allegedly left and returned after fifteen minutes.
After speaking with the officer, Christian learned that the paper he handed over was an expired ticket for illegal tint. “He goes, ‘you handed me a ticket for your tint that is illegal. This ticket is also expired. This ticket was also not even for this state. This ticket wasn’t for Illinois. It was for my hometown, and I go, ‘I’m so sorry, sir. I just grabbed the colored paper; usually the registrations are on a colored piece of paper.’”
Christian said the officer asked him to step out of his car and then put him through the DUI field sobriety test, which he supposedly passed with “flying colors.” Christian noted that the officer also checked his car and made him take the breathalyzer, but found nothing fishy.
Speaking about how the whole ordeal ended, Christian said, “I think it finally sunk in for him that maybe I’m just stupid because the breathalyzer came back 0.0, and the cop looks at me, he goes, ‘I’ve never had somebody give me another traffic ticket while getting pulled over. You are a first.’” Christian also revealed that he had a court date in a month and a half for his ticket that expired in 2024.
“Not all registration papers are colored”
Over a hundred people commented on Christian’s video, and one of the main concerns some raised was his claim that he picked up a colored paper while looking for his registration papers. One user wrote, “Not all registration papers are colored. In my whole life it’s always been plain white.” Another user said, “Your registration is on colored paper? I’m in Florida and it’s just white.”
A few others described similar experiences or knew people who did. One user commented saying, “This happened to somebody I know, she got pulled over for speeding and handed over a speeding ticket instead of her registration.” Another person remarked, “Chris, don’t worry I handed a cop a gift card to the cheesecake factory instead of my license.”
It is hard to tell whether Christian is sharing the truth or his personal experience, as a brief review of his profile suggests his content could be curated for social media. For example, in June, Christian said he had a date with a woman, but he suddenly left her after she expected him to pay for her pedicure, which some people found hard to believe.
