Chicago Man Picks Up Woman for Dinner, Then Leaves Without Informing Her Because of a Pedicure Appointment: ‘You just matched her energy.’
Date disaster

If you’re active in the dating scene or know someone who is, you probably realize that things are pretty tough out there. People are struggling to find someone they genuinely like, let alone love, in this age of dating apps and fleeting interactions. For the same reasons, many often enter relationships with people they aren’t fully compatible with, because of the constant pressure to avoid ending up alone.
Just six days ago, TikTok user @christiancooks99 posted a video discussing the challenges of dating today. He focused on a specific incident involving a woman he had planned a date with. It happened that after talking to this woman for over a week after meeting on Hinge, Christian decided to ask her out to dinner. She agreed, but when Christian went to pick her up, things quickly took a turn, and he left. He’s not proud of that choice and thinks many would criticize him for it, but he doesn’t care, because he believes it was the right thing to do.
TikTok user @christiancooks99 had an unusual date night
As previously mentioned, @christiancooks99 asked a woman he had been talking to on Hinge out for a dinner date. Speaking about the woman, Christian mentioned that she met his non-negotiables, which were that she should own an apartment or a house and not have any kids.
On the day of their date, she asked him to pick her up. Christian left his house to do so, thinking he was picking her up from her place, but he wasn’t. Following the address she gave him, Christian arrived at a strip mall that had various businesses, including a nail salon. It turned out that his date was in the nail salon, getting a pedicure.
When Christian arrived, he felt a bit uncomfortable, mainly because he believed he was meeting her at her house. She also told him she would need some time to get her nails done. The strangest part was when she asked him to pay for her pedicure. She justified this by saying she was trying to look nice for their dinner date, so it was fair for him to cover the cost.
Christian agreed to pay for the pedicure, and his date asked him to pick a nail polish color. He did, even suggesting she add extra designs on her nails. He chose a few from the catalog, and she picked the rest. While she was getting her nails done, Christian waited at the reception, but later checked on her progress. Then he reached for his wallet to pay, but he realized he had left it in his car downstairs. He quickly went to get it, then left without paying.
In his TikTok video, Christian said he had no intention of paying for her pedicure and that fleeing the situation had been his plan. This is because he believed it wasn’t his responsibility to pay for the woman’s pedicure, which was a whopping 120 dollars, that too before she started adding designs.
People have a lot of opinions about @christiancooks99’s story
@christiancooks99’s video about him running away from a dinner date after the woman asked him to pay for her pedicure has gained a lot of attention on TikTok. User @lizbkelly13 wrote, “Nope! Not at all! You just matched her energy. Very clever. She was playing checkers and you were playing chess.” User @angies.vie commented, “As a girl, I agree with what you did.”
User @bklynhighroller said, “Thank god I almost thought u paid for a second. You are not wrong… a thousand times over you’re not wrong.” User @christymae20 stated, “This is 100% the right move, even the add-ons. Good job.”
Most Americans think dating has become hard
Although more recent data would be ideal, a study conducted by the Pew Research Center and published on August 20, 2020, notes that almost 50 percent of the American adult population admits that dating has become more difficult for most people in the last ten years.
The source also sheds light on the general perception people have about their dating lives. Thirty-three percent of the daters surveyed say that overall, things in their lives are going very or fairly well. Conversely, 67 percent believe that overall, things are not too well or not at all well. Additionally, the survey notes that 25 percent of the daters say they have found it very or somewhat easy to find people to date in the past year. Meanwhile, 75 percent of the daters say it has been very or somewhat difficult to find people to date in the past year.
