Let’s Over-Analyze This Star Wars LEGO Commercial for Force Awakens Plot Clues

In time-honored nerd tradition.

It’s Monday morning and nothing interesting has happened yet this week! Well, nothing fun, anyway. So, let’s tear this commercial for some Star Wars: The Force Awakens LEGO sets apart!

Sure, it seems simple enough, but what about hidden plot clues for the movie? Kylo Ren is on Jakku, huh? So not only does he spread lightsaber envy in barren places that are very cold,

but also in barren places that are very hot! Truly a multifaceted character.

OK, joking (mostly) aside, the plot depicted seems to be saving BB8, who we’ve previously seem tearing across the desert at a pretty quick pace in the movie trailers. It seems that, like R2-D2 in A New Hope, BB8 carries some kind of significant data, and the film’s baddies don’t want the good guys to make off with it.

It’s more than likely that some liberties are taken with exact events—such as a lone X-wing launch platform in the middle of the desert—as it’s just a trailer for a game adaptation of the movie a commercial for some LEGOs (Whoops. Thanks a lot, Monday morning.) and thus pretty far removed from actual storyline, but I wouldn’t be surprised if BB8 is, in fact, the droid the First Order is looking for.

I also can’t wait to see what those giant disembodied hands piecing an X-wing together mean. Did Luke’s severed hand mutate and grow to monstrous proportions and team up with another Jedi’s severed hand (there are plenty to choose from) to take over the galaxy!? Only time will tell. (Read: no.)
