Las Vegas man claims a Signal message told him to ‘kill his grandma’ before bludgeoning his girlfriend to death
He claimed his girlfriend was in "pain."
A grandmother said she woke up in the middle of the night to find her grandson fatally attacking his girlfriend at a home in Las Vegas. Now, the 42-year-old grandson is bound for prison after allegedly pleading guilty and claiming to have heard “voices” that supposedly encouraged the murder.
In December 2023, Brandon Tenorio was reported to police by his grandmother after she allegedly woke up in the middle of the night to a “loud thud” noise at their Mountain Valley Drive home in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the grandmother, she was sleeping upstairs before going to investigate the noise and later found Tenorio bludgeoning his girlfriend, 36-year-old Kourtney Glover, with a hammer as he stood over her, per Law&Crime.
An arrest report obtained by the Review-Journal said that “Brandon was hitting Kourtney’s head with a hammer,” while Glover was lying “on the ground” during the attack, as witnessed by the grandmother. The grandmother reportedly tried to stop Tenorio, only to be pushed out of the way.
He admits to committing the murder
The police report said the grandmother ran away from the scene through the house’s garage, but was dragged back inside by her grandson, who chased after her. “While Brandon was dragging her back inside, he stated, ‘I’m not going to kill you.'” The report said.
The grandmother was able to escape to a neighbor’s home, where she made the 911 call. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers later arrived at 8:08pm, with Tenorio supposedly complying with the arrest and admitting to the murder. “I did it. I killed her. She is dead. She is inside,” Tenorio told police when he exited the house with his hands raised and covered in blood.
Glover was found inside the house at the base of the stairs near the kitchen and was declared dead at the scene. Blood was discovered throughout the home, and police located the hammer in a bathroom, as well as three bloody knives in the kitchen.
Tenorio reportedly struck Glover at the back of her head with the hammer before stabbing her in the back, stomach, and neck with a steak knife. According to the report, Tenorio had wanted to “stop” Glover’s “pain.”
He allegedly heard voices encouraging him to kill
During his interrogation with the police, Tenorio claimed he heard voices “all the time,” and at one point, was told by the voice that it was “time to kill or be killed.” However, he also claimed that he received a message from the messaging app Signal to “kill his grandma.” Reportedly, the murder was allegedly triggered when he was under the impression that Glover was signaling the driver of a gas truck outside his home as part of a scheme targeting him.
Tenorio was found guilty of first-degree murder on Sept. 10, three years after the fatal incident. At the hearing, Glover’s family expressed their heartbreak over the loss of a daughter and sister. “There is no sentence long enough to restore what he took,” Glover’s sister, Ashley Davis, said in court.
Glover’s father, William Davis, supposedly wished for Tenorio to suffer the consequences of his actions. “I hope he does his time, and I hope he don’t make it out of there,” Davis said. “I’m an eye-for-an-eye person, and I don’t believe in this cutting him some slack for killing somebody.”
Caitlyn McAmis, a Special Public Defender, claimed that there were “significant substance abuse and mental health issues” that were not addressed and treated at the time of the tragedy. Nevertheless, Tenorio is said to have apologized and accepted full responsibility for his actions. He will be serving 20 years in prison.
