Still flying high on that Jessica Jones renewal news? We are too, and we’ve already got a few small details on what we can expect from Season 2.

While showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and the cast of Jessica Jones couldn’t share too many plot details about Season 2 (Marvel secrets, guys) following the renewal announcement at the 2016 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Sunday, they did make a note of one thing. As David Tennant himself has already said, Kilgrave may be totally absent from the upcoming season.

“I mean, we had [David], and you want him around forever. He’s such an extraordinary actor, and really, truly one of the loveliest people you’d ever want to work with,” Rosenberg said on a panel for the show also featuring fellow EP Jeph Loeb and actors Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Rachael Taylor. “But, you know, the show is called Jessica Jones … so that was the story we were servicing [in Season 1].”

Kilgrave’s future on the series seemed unclear following the Season 1 finale, with Jessica seemingly killing off her tormenter for good after he threatened to take away and torture her truest love: best friend Trish Walker. While we might not see Kilgrave in Season 2, Jessica will obviously still be dealing with the trauma of his abuse. Ritter explains:

For Jessica, that final moment, that victorious triumphant moment when she kills Kilgrave …  I found that very conflicting in terms of Jessica Jones’ head space, because he’s the reason why she got up every day … he’s the reason why she went out in the world. It really gave her a purpose. And I don’t think that the past trauma just goes away with his death.

So yeah, I think that her head space is really complex [going into Season 2].

No doubt!
