Vicious trollops.

We recently got officially official confirmation that the Gilmore Girls revival is, in fact, happening with Netflix. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, initial cast interviews have hit the interwebs, and they’ve been doing table reads. Yes, there is new Gilmore Girls in the world just waiting for our eager senses to take it in.

Of course, what we’re all wondering is, “Is it any good?” Unsurprisingly, the answer from Lorelai Gilmore herself is a resounding yes, because the show is about about as beloved by its cast as it is by the fans. However, we’ll take her at her word, as she told TV Line:

[I’m] just so excited to do this material. Amy sent me the scripts and I gobbled them right up. It’s all the positive aspects of running into someone you used to go out with with none of the downside. [Laughs] It’s like, “Hey, old friend! I’m happy to see you.”

I was completely satisfied with these scripts. It’s what I hoped it would be.

Graham also mentioned that she and Alexis Bledel have already stepped back on the old Gilmore Girls set together, and it was an emotional experience. Of course, part of that emotion is everyone’s sadness over the absence of Edward Herman, who played Richard Gilmore and passed away at the end of 2014. Kelly Bishop explained to TV Line in her own interview that his presence will be felt, especially in Emily’s portrayal:

Well, because of the fact that Emily lost her husband, she’s kind of a raw nerve. In a desperate attempt to push through [her grief], she blows between right on the edge of losing it to almost being a little manic. I recall doing something very similar when I lost my mother; I was quite devastated. I suddenly got into this mode of getting things done and getting things done right. I was manic and aggressive and pushing, pushing, pushing—because, if you stop, you’re going to cry. So you don’t stop. And I see that in Emily. [Richard] is certainly a presence, especially in that first script. And Ed’s probably going to be hovering around the set a bit and watching over us. I really do believe that. Because he really loved the show.

They’ve both read the first three scripts by now—”Winter,” “Spring,” and “Summer,” since that rumor about a 90-minute episode per season seems to be true—though neither has skipped ahead to the end of “Fall” for the fabled last four words that never made it into the original series. For Bishop, that’s because she “never opened her Christmas presents ahead of time.” Graham, on the other hand, knows what they are because Amy Sherman-Palladino told her (after assuming she already knew).

Neither will tell anyway, of course, because finding out what they are for ourselves will just be so much better, but Graham gives a little more insight on their nature in her full interview. Beyond that, Bishop also says we can look forward to some more quality, “unbelievable” Paris Geller material (she and Emily are personal favorites, so I’m pretty excited about that), and she will … uh … follow where Sherman-Palladino leads:

[M]ost of the time, amazingly, I would go, “Yep, that’s it. Spot on. That’s exactly what she’d say!” So I’ll just follow the lead and see where it goes.
