Jonathan Frakes Will Play Star-Lord’s Father in Animated Guardians of the Galaxy

OF COURSE Star-Lord's dad is Riker. It all makes sense.

We didn’t think it was likely that the animated Guardians of the Galaxy would introduce Star-Lord’s father. The show follows the crew’s adventures after the first movie, but adding Star-Lord’s dad would likely put them at odds with James Gunn’s movie sequel, which will do its own thing in that regard. However, Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Riker) has now been cast to play that role in the cartoon.

According to USA Today, Frakes’ character is J’son, “king of the Spartax galactic empire” and Peter Quill’s dad, and he’ll be introduced as a guest star in an episode of the Disney XD cartoon on March 13. Frakes said, “I’m thrilled to be part of another great sci-fi franchise, and I’m also lucky that the character of J’Son just happens to sound like me.”

Frakes’ character lines up with Quill’s parentage in the comics, though James Gunn has already said that won’t be the movies’ take on Quill’s family tree.

So … not Riker, but the movie version of Quill’s father could just be Riker, then, right? I mean, how many of us can say for sure that Riker isn’t our father?
