At last night’s New York gubernatorial debate, the man who we can guarantee will be the star of the Internet for today exposed his impressive Civil War-style facial hair and a spirited mode of oratory: Jimmy McMillan, the founder of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party.
TDW says Jimmy McMillan was “the decisive winner of last night’s debate,” and our sister site Mediaite explains how he and his Rent Is Too Damn High crusade actually served an important function in the debate proper:
Armed with dark gloves, a website that looks like it was designed by Matt Drudge and Snoop Dogg (warning: extremely catchy MIDI track playing in the background), and a simple message, McMillian served as the most outstanding comedy relief candidate by far. He also had another essential function, however: because of seating arrangements, his was the act Carl Paladino had to follow answering most questions, making Paladino sounds positively boring after his rapidfire chanting style and repeated uses of his motto.
Esquire sadly concludes that despite his all-around dapperness, McMillan’s black gloves, which the Vietnam veteran wears to help fend off the effects of Agent Orange, constituted a fashion faux pas. “They were showstoppers, but really? That’s just a stretch in terms of sanity and etiquette. You wear gloves outside, man.”
