Woman orders ‘Thick ‘N Fluffy’ French toast at IHOP. Then she says they ‘bamboozled’ her

Turning the ripe age of 55 can be a tough pill to swallow for some. Certain establishments consider this a senior citizen, which can be increasingly challenging to accept. While that milestone can be daunting, there is a perk to soften the blow: senior discounts.

Although receiving cheaper deals for being older is expected and standard, this woman discovered it may not be the case at IHOP.

What Happened At IHOP?

While sitting in a booth at IHOP with the menu open, TikTok creator Kamille (@kamilleyvonne) reveals what she noticed.

“I’m in IHOP and they have the 55 menu,” she says.

Then, she points to the 55+ Thick ‘N Fluffy option.

“Classic Fluffy french toast, two smoked [bacon strips] or pork sausage for $7.29,” she reads out loud.

When she turns the page to the value menu, she notes the problem.

She says, “You can get the French Toast Faves Combo. One slice of thick and fluffy French toast, two bacon strips or pork sausage links and two eggs for $7.”

Essentially, a senior receives less food for 29 cents more. In her mind, she believes IHOP bamboozled them.

“Make it make sense,” the content creator remarks to over 31,000 viewers.

Kamille paints the full picture in the caption: “Took my mom to IHOP for breakfast and turns out the Senior menu isn’t a discount at all!”

People Think IHOP Is Scamming Customers

The comments section was full of mixed reactions, with some appalled by how IHOP was deceiving its seniors.

“They’re even pulling a fast one on the senior menus now,” one viewer commented.

“Guess I know not to go to IHOP if they’re going to go out of their way to disrespect seniors like that,” a second remarked.

“And there’s no eggs in the +55 version either. More expensive and one less item? Zero sense,” a third said.

Meanwhile, others attempted to propose an explanation for the price disparity.

“It’s not uncommon for restaurants to have a value offering that’s cheaper than the regular menu,” one commenter stated.

“Value is time restricted, but still doesn’t make sense,” a second echoed.

Why Is The Senior Menu Be More Expensive At IHOP?

According to Seven Rooms, restaurants tend to evaluate their consumers based on age, gender, income, location and dining habits. When determining menu prices, this helps businesses cultivate the right menu catered to their audience.

In a bid to appeal to more budget-friendly customers (primarily Gen Z and Millennials), the diner launched the everyday value menu dubbed the “Happy Plates.”

“At IHOP, we believe great food should be accessible to everyone, every day,” IHOP president Lawrence Kim stated in a newsroom letter. “We know our guests are more value conscious than ever, so the launch of IHOP’s Value Menu is a direct response to what they want — delicious food, variety, abundance, and affordability without compromise, seven days a week. We’re 67 years young, and this is just the beginning of a new chapter where we bring fresh energy and continue to delight our guests with the comfort and joy they’ve come to expect from IHOP.”

This limited-time deal offers four breakfast meals starting at $6 at participating locations and $7 nationwide. While it’s unknown why 55+ menu options would be more expensive, each location is franchised and determines its own prices.
