ICU Nurse Leaves a Dementia Patient for 30 Seconds. What She Does Next Leaves Him Confused: ‘You’re Worried About AI Taking Our Jobs?’

Nursing is no easy job, and TikTok has seen enough nightmare stories from those on the job. The hospital is a chaotic place, but even strange encounters with patients could quickly turn into comedy skits. Addison (@big_daddy_addie), an ICU nurse, left his patient for 30 seconds—what he came back to left him speechless.
“Let’s get one thing straight and two things gay,” he started off. Addison runs a TikTok account where he talks about goofy encounters he’s had as a nurse. He’s seen a lot, especially since he’s been on the job for eight years. “Normally, I break hearts, not HIPAA, but if you blow this video up enough, I can just pay for the violation,” he joked.
The start of his story was anything but comedic—Addison thought he was about to get fired from his job. He said he had an elderly patient who needed to go to the bathroom. Addison assumed she had dementia but was unsure. The nurse believes that the woman didn’t seem to have a confused sense of reality.
A weird incident with the toilet
Upon helping her out, Addison realized he had no saline flushes with him. The medication is meant to clear IV lines of dirt and debris. He held her IV line and told her, “Hold on, I’m going to flush this for you really quick.”
He decided to leave the patient for about 30 seconds to get the saline flushes. It’s too short of a moment for anything to go wrong, or so he thought.
“I leave the room for 30 seconds, come back, and all of a sudden, the toilet is overflowing,” Addison said. He checked the toilet and saw the woman’s IV line in the toilet. In his confusion, he kept switching glances—from the IV line to the woman.
He asked her why she threw her IV line into the toilet. The woman responded, “I was just gonna help you out and flush it for you.”
Addison remarked, “You’re all worried about AI taking our jobs? What would AI do in that situation?”
Clearly, the woman had no idea what “flush” meant. But this bizarre situation just showed everyone a glimpse of the horrors nurses go through midshift. If ChatGPT had to be a nurse for a day, the program would probably implode on itself trying to understand humans.
Nurse snaps at obnoxious patient
Nevertheless, the incident above doesn’t really explain why Addison feels as though he’d be fired. But he prefaced it all by saying, “This may be a controversial take, and I’ll be the one to say it: I don’t believe dementia patients should have the right to vote, especially if they’re racist.”
Apparently, the woman who flushed her IV line down the toilet “made some racist comment” regarding DEI.
Addison got extra snappy with the woman and told her, “Well, I don’t think you need to worry about that since you’re about to D-I-E.”
He added, “These dementia patients need to be hooked on phonics, not on Fox News, ’cause it is making it worse.” Should he have said all that to a dementia patient? No, but is the internet gagged by Addison? Absolutely, and TikTok even suggested that hospices “put parental controls” so that seniors wouldn’t be staring at Fox News all day.
