Here’s a bit of good news to take your mind off the Trump administration’s daily batch of fresh horrors: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child snatched up numerous nominations for the Olivia Awards—the ceremony that celebrates the best of British Theater (and is the equivalent of NYC’s Tony Awards). With 11 nominations including Best Play and Best Director, it has set a record for a new play.
The story itself takes place 19 years after the events in Deathly Hallows. Potter now an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic and married with three kids, but still dealing with the effects of his tumultuous childhood. Meanwhile, his youngest son Albus struggles with the pressures of a family legacy he never wanted to be part of. Soon, both realize that darkness comes from the most unexpected places.
The show has only been produced in London but, according to Variety, will make its way to Broadway in New York City next year. That is, if we can make it to 2018. See the full list of nominations below:
