Harrison Ford’s Advice to Actors Auditioning for Young Han Solo: “Don’t Do It”

More like Han Troll-o.

Harrison Ford was in rare form yesterday on Ellen. The actor, who surprised Ellen‘s audience by arriving at the last minute to help ‘Chewbacca’ promote Star Wars: The Force Awakensupcoming digital and Blu-Ray release, was typically cantankerous as he talked about Indiana Jones 5 and the upcoming Han Solo standalone movie.

After raising his arms in victory while discussing all the money The Force Awakens made him, Ford was asked by Ellen about his thoughts on the “new Han Solo” movie, which he clarified is “not a new Han Solo, a … a … young. It’s worse than that, it’s a young Han Solo.”

When asked if he had any tips for the actors auditioning to play young Solo, Ford advised them “Don’t do it. First, you know, it seems like everything’s going swimmingly, and you put in 25, 30 years, and they just … they just let you go. And they show you the door: ‘We’re done with you, thanks very much.'”

Of course, considering Ford is set to star in a new Indiana Jones, it’s hard to feel too sorry for him for no longer being eligible to play a young Han Solo. The actor obviously couldn’t talk about the new Indiana film in detail, but promised Ellen he’d come back and give her the dirt another day.

Honestly, even if The Force Awakens had turned out to be a disaster, it might still have been worth it to see Ford having fun like this. After all, he has a reputation for hating press and publicity tours, he seems to get a kick out of trolling fans and giving his interviewers a hard time, and I definitely enjoy watching him.

Also, is it just me, or does Ford seem to be channeling Jeff Goldblum a little here? Their mannerism and inflection seem a little similar to me, but maybe that’s just the universal characteristic manifestation of being fresh out of fucks.
