Guillermo Del Toro To Shoot A Small Black-and-White Movie Before Filming Pacific Rim 2

Gasp! A mystery!

What’s that? Guillermo del Toro has a super secret project he’s going to film before he heads back into the drift? My ears have pricked!

Speaking with Collider, del Toro explained that he’ll be taking a short hiatus from Pacific Rim 2 pre-production early next year to film…something.

Right away, in February/March I should [start on] another very small movie, black and white, really, really bizarre before starting—we start pre-production on Pacific Rim 2 in August, and then I interrupt it briefly to go into the first of next year to do this strange little movie, and then I restart it and go all the way until we start shooting Pacific Rim 2 at the end of 2015 for release in 2017.

Del Toro didn’t offer much more than that, but he did mention that he has a cast in mind: John Hurt, who is great in everything, and a “not well known” actress who del Toro saw in a short film. Lest you forgot who the director was, there will also be “one great creature” in it. Intriguing!

The project’s title is as-of-yet under wraps, as del Toro wants to keep things a secret. Personally, I rather love the mystery of it. I very much enjoy del Toro’s work, and I like the idea of him stepping back from blockbusters for a little while. Which is not to say I’m not looking forward to more Jaegers as well. Believe you me, I am looking forward to more Jaegers.
