Grieving daughter spent $1,400 on a massive 13-bed Airbnb, but the host waited until the refund window closed to claim the house only fits one person

Happy Ending

A woman says what should have been a meaningful weekend honoring her late mother turned into an Airbnb nightmare when the property’s host allegedly claimed that a home advertised for 20 people could suddenly accommodate only one. Jazzy G (jazzyg1711) claimed in a TikTok video that she and her brother shelled out a whopping $1400 for a “weekend stay” at an Airbnb with close ones.

Highlighting how meaningful the event is for her, Jazzy mentioned, “A lot of you guys know my mom passed away July 10th. And before her passing, she made me sign up for this half Marathon in Saint George, which we are to run tomorrow morning. She added, “And I wanted all my family and friends that were coming to support to be in one place. I didn’t want anybody to worry about having to pay for accommodations they’re already coming so far to support. And so I paid for an Airbnb. Me and my brother split it, and it [sic] was 14 hundred dollars.”

Jazzy said she had been working seven days a week to cover the trip expenses, including the Airbnb, which she said was advertised for 20 people with 13 beds. Jazzy said that within minutes of making the booking, the host sent her a link, asked her to include the number of guests, and required a $500 security deposit to confirm the booking.

Jazzy said she did not understand why she was being asked to pay the additional amount when she had already paid for the room. She said she asked the host about it but received no response, and additionally, because she was provided with one form, she said she could not also confirm the number of guests. Not being able to receive a response, Jazzy said she got in touch with Airbnb, who then advised her not to pay the $500 amount.

Jazzy said the host did not get back to her for a week and a half, then reached out a day before she made the video about the issue. “She never responded to my last message. She responds to me finally yesterday, confirming guest count. I’m like, 13. She’s like, I can’t accommodate 13. Like, what do you mean you can’t accommodate 13? The house is advertised for 20 people, 13 beds,” Jazzy said, narrating her ordeal. The woman also alleged that Jazzy had put her guest count as 1 and said she was willing to accommodate 1 person.

The woman also allegedly told Jazzy that she could not get a refund because the cancellation period was over. “I’m like, dude, of course I can’t get my refund back because you waited a week and a half to not say Anything to me so that you could do this and know that I wasn’t going to get a refund,” Jazzy said while highlighting the woman’s evil intentions. Jazzy also alleged that she reached out to Airbnb, but they told her it was the host’s discretion whether she would receive a refund.

Jazzy did get her money back

The day after, in a video, Jazzy said Airbnb refunded her for the room. In another video, she shared that the host sent a detailed message saying she would have refunded her personally, and that there was no need to involve Airbnb. Offended by the message, Jazzy responded with a lengthy reply.

In the original video, Jazzy received more than 3000 comments, underscoring its popularity. Some urged Jazzy to take action. One person said, “Call Airbnb. I am a host and they will ALWAYS side with the guest. Call back someone different at Airbnb.” Another wrote, “Call legal shield or another lawyer. Dispute your charge and bnb rule must apply…”

A few people kindly offered Jazzy free stays. One wrote, “I manage vacation homes here in St. George. I’d love to gift your family a free stay to show you how it should be done. So sorry you dealt with that.”

Jazzy’s case illustrates how some people can sometimes take advantage of you and how outcomes may not always go as planned. However, it also shows that perseverance can help you achieve your goals. Her other videos reveal that she participated in the marathon and finished it, fulfilling her mother’s wish.
