If you missed a chance to see Miss Hokusai in theaters, or if you fell in love with the story like I did, you’ll be excited to hear that the gorgeous coming-of-age tale by award-winning director Keiichi Hara (Colorful) will be available on DVD/Blu-ray March 7th.

The story follows O-Ei, the daughter of revered painter Hokusai as her paintings sold under her father’s name attract all kinds of people in Edo. The story of her independent spirit, incredible talent, and loyalty is filled with fantastical spirits and dragons. Alongside these mystical images that inform her art is the understated storytelling Hara drew from Hinako Sugiura’s original comic–O-Ei’s emotional relationship with her family, especially her blind sister O-Nao, will stay with you long after the movie ends. Hara calls this an “Edo-style approach” full of subtle details.
