Woman from Georgia Kept a Family Secret From Her Nine-Year-Old Son. Then Her Son's Grandma Told Him Anyway 'It Is Not Your Business'

Paige Risner (@paigey_258), a mother from Georgia, called on extended family members to respect parental boundaries. She alleged that her nine-year-old son’s grandmother disclosed a family secret that the boy was not yet ready to learn about.

“I just had to sit down with my nine-year-old son and inform him that the dad that has raised him since he was an infant was not, biologically, his dad,” Risner said on social media. She clarified that she and her partner planned to tell their son but wanted him to be mentally prepared for the announcement. Risner added that they also wanted to break the news at specifically twelve years old so that their son wouldn’t be resentful.

“His biological dad is not in his life because he chose not to be,” Risner alleged. She further claimed that her ex has three children, but is uninvolved unless he’s with the mother of the child. Risner said that she “begged” her ex to be part of her son’s life for two years but eventually stopped.

Nevertheless, when she was with him, they lived together with her ex’s mother. Because Risner’s mother passed when she was 17, her ex’s mom became her mother figure. Since they had a strong bond, Risner didn’t keep her son away from his grandma. Nevertheless, she still enforced her boundaries. During family gatherings, Risner made it clear that if the biological father was around, she did not want her son to attend.

“I have said for years: I would never do anything to make you not have access to your grandchild as long as you respect my boundaries, and those boundaries being, do not ever tell him about his biological dad,” Risner supposedly told the grandmother.

A promise she couldn’t keep

Risner said she has made it clear to the grandmother that the conversation about her son’s biological father is between her and her partner. Risner said that her partner has been the only dad her son knew and has raised him since he was an infant. He essentially became the father that stepped up. Some stepfathers outdo biological dads, like this man from Dallas, who would later receive a heartwarming surprise from his stepdaughter.

Although Risner’s son already has a present father, the grandma allegedly struggled to keep the secret. Risner recalled that when her son was five, the grandma took him to a family gathering. Risner got a message from her ex’s then-girlfriend, and she alleged that the biological father was at the party and that they had pictures together.

The girlfriend sent the supposed pictures to Risner, and she was shocked. In her defense, the grandmother allegedly said that she had no clue her son would be at the gathering. But Risner claimed that the grandma had a week to tell her that she had accidentally exposed her son to the biological dad. Risner alleged that the grandma failed to inform her.

“Please, whatever you do, do not say anything to him. And please start respecting my boundaries, or I will cut off all communication, and I don’t want to do that to my son,” Risner told the grandmother after the incident. But in the past few years, Risner claimed that the grandma has threatened to tell her grandson if she didn’t tell him soon. The grandma supposedly said that the grandson suspects her identity as his “real” grandparent. Risner insisted that it wasn’t the grandma’s place to tell, and the tension remained.

Her son started acting suspiciously

Risner’s daughter had surgery, and her partner walked outside. She claimed that her son “flipped out” when he left. The boy was allegedly asked where his dad was, and the dad left him behind.

“He had to video call and make sure that his dad was outside, and his dad went in front of the window and waved to him and told him he’d be back in,” Risner said. And then, her son supposedly asked yet another strange question.

“Mommy, was my dad there when I was born?” he asked. The question left Risner confused. She later found out that her son’s grandmother had apparently had too much to drink the night before and told her partner that she had already told her son about his biological dad. Risner said she tried contacting the grandma. However, she claimed to have received no response.

“I went off. I wasn’t a very nice person, and I blocked her on everything,” Risner said. She then had a one-on-one conversation with her son the next day. The boy sobbed, saying that his grandma told him that his biological father was her son and not the dad he’s always known.

“I loved this woman as my own mother,” Risner said. But she thought that the act was selfish and that her son had been left confused as a result. She argued that extended family members shouldn’t cross or overlap parental boundaries. “If it’s not your child, it’s not your business,” Risner asserted.
