Florida Man Couldn’t Do Repairs for His Mother’s House. In Response, She Allegedly Threw Out His Childhood Stuff: ‘When in Doubt, Crash Out’

Parental estrangement was not an easy decision for Tristan Von Staden (@tristipoopoo) from Florida. However, after an explosive fight with his mother, he told social media that he had decided to cut her off.
“When in doubt, crash out. I’m no longer talking to my [expletive] mom,” Von Staden told TikTok. He said that at first, he didn’t want to make a video about the situation. When it comes to his mother, Von Staden said that he often overlooked her mistakes and chose to forgive her. But after much consideration, he vented his side of the story online.
Two weeks ago, Von Staden claimed his mother asked him to hang up a door handle on her front and back doors, then fix her fence so her dog wouldn’t escape. He said, “Normally, I have no problem doing this. Not just for her, but for anyone in my family.” Von Staden also recalled that during his mother’s move to her new house, he allegedly helped her with it and even hung up all her decor. But in this instance, Von Staden said he went to the hospital a week ago because of panic attacks and severe anxiety. He didn’t want to overextend himself, so he refused to do the repairs for his mother’s home.
Von Staden said his mother told him he could refuse to do the repairs, but he needed to tell her so she could hire someone else. Her son apologized, saying he couldn’t do the task. He didn’t want to overextend himself and wanted to take time to recover.
Deep-seated issues with his mother
During the call, his mother allegedly hung up on him when he refused. After that, Von Staden alleged that she texted him, stating, “Don’t ask me for anything ever again.”
“I never have and I never will,” Von Staden texted back. He snapped, frustrated by his mother’s words. The content creator further alleged that because of his mother’s “poor actions” during his childhood, he became hyper-independent.
“She had good moments, but she also had a lot of poor ones, like choosing men over her own children,” he alleged. Nevertheless, after the exchange, his mother started ranting through text about how much she’s done for him in the past. Von Staden dismissed these claims, saying those actions were part of her responsibilities as a parent.
“When you choose to be a parent, you are accepting responsibility for anything your kid needs and for anything your kid wants to do. You don’t get extra rewards—you don’t get extra hype or a mother of the year award,” Von Staden said. After his mother went on a tangent, Von Staden said he stopped replying to her.
Burning bridges
“The next day, he texted my boyfriend, saying that Tristan needs to come and get his stuff out of my house. I’m not his storage unit, and I’m going to throw it all away if he doesn’t,” Von Staden claimed. He added that the items included childhood photos, trophies, and even cards he made for his mother. Von Staden didn’t think it was a big deal, saying his own mother had also left behind items in his grandmother’s home, which she has yet to claim. Furthermore, he didn’t see the urgency because his mother allegedly didn’t contact him directly to pick up his things.
Then, his sister called him and told him to read his messages. His mother sent a photo with the message, “Your stuff has been delivered.” The photo showed his childhood memorabilia sitting in front of his car in the parking lot of his apartment complex. Von Staden was hurt and has cut contact with his mother for now. Nevertheless, he warned against sending her hate, adding that he still loves his mother despite their online tiff.
“I’m sure that one day we will talk. I have enough faith to know that one day, we will have a strong relationship, and that one day, a change will have come,” Von Staden said. While he holds on to the hope of repairing the relationship, another content creator from Nevada has remained firm in cutting her family off even after her mother had been hospitalized.
