If you’re anything like us, you have fond ’90s memories of Earthworm Jim and Earthworm Jim 2, great platformers that doubled down on their solid gameplay with a quirky sensibility and absurdist humor. The high water mark: A level in Earthworm Jim 2 called “Villi People” in which you morphed into a blind cave salamander, swam through an intestinal tract lined with pencils, and competed in a bizarre game show. The Earthworm Jim franchise has frustrated fans in recent years with a PSP game that was slated for 2006, but has as of yet failed to materialize. This new trailer for Earthworm Jim HD, courtesy of Joystiq, may be just what we need to bring back hope: It looks great in a retro way, there’s now multiplayer, and there are even new levels. And no, your eyes do not deceive you: In the screengrab above, it very much looks like Jim is doing battle with Keyboard Cat.
