Is Earth’s Existence Canon in the ‘Star Wars’ Universe?

Earth, our homeworld, was first called a planet as early as the 15th century. We’ve known it as our homeworld for quite some time, and we also now know that there are many planets floating in the vastness of space beyond Earth. So, do any of those planets out there have empires engaging in epic battles for the fate of the universe? We don’t know yet. But it begs the question, in the fictional world of Star Wars, is Earth part of that system? Or are we in a completely different galaxy far, far away?

Does Earth Exist in ‘Star Wars’?

Star Wars, a sprawling space opera based around galaxies and planets, has many unique worlds of its own, such as Tattooine, Endor, Kashyyk, Naboo, and Hoth (to name a few).

But unfortunately, Earth does not exist in any Star Wars canon—at least so far. However, it does have quite a few appearances in non-canon material related to the franchise. Star Tours, the Disney theme park attraction, features a storyline about the travel agency of the same name that operated around the time of the Clone Wars. The theme park attraction focuses primarily on a tour between Earth and various other planets within the Star Wars storyline. In the 1993 book Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas, there is a brief article from the Galactic Gossip column where two aliens are “abducted” by Humans and brought to a planet called Urrtha, which is presumed to be Earth. This source is also not considered canon.

Although Earth has been mentioned in a few Star Wars sources, it is more universally agreed upon that the planet does not exist within the Star Wars canon, and therefore, it can be assumed that Earth does not exist in the Star Wars universe. It’s possible that humans have many homes across the galaxy far, far away, but otherwise, it can be noted that Earth does not exist within this timeline.
