Dear White People Trailer Comes With a Trigger Warning for Those Inevitable White Tears

Remember when a bunch of people threatened to cancel their Netflix accounts because they were offended by the first Dear White People teaser? Well, the team behind the show heard those cries, and they’re super sorry for offending. Just kidding. Creator Justin Simien (who also wrote all 10 episodes) is enjoying all the free promo. But in light of the situation, they did include a trigger warning for the official trailer.

For those who are unaware, the dramedy is the follow up to the 2014 film of the same name about a group of students of color at an Ivy League university. It will focus on the escalating racial tensions, undoubtedly exacerbated by those attempting to downplay what’s really happening. While many assume it was created to bash white people or whatever the Twitter mob was up in arms about, it’s actually a bold and honest look at the complexities of racism and prejudice displayed by both white people and POC.

The satirical series stars Brandon P. Bell reprising his role as Troy Fairbanks, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson. It heads to Netflix on April 28.
