Dallas police say 3 Halloween night shootings in Deep Ellum appear unrelated, with 4 people killed and at least 15 injured

Halloween weekend gun violence hit nightlife districts nationwide, with the deadliest toll in Dallas. Four people are dead, and at least 15 others are reportedly hurt after three separate shootings occurred in the city’s Deep Ellum neighborhood on Halloween night, according to ABC News. Police say they have no information linking the incidents, though investigators are still working to confirm that.
The first incident started at about 12:20 a.m. near the 2600 block of Elm Street. Less than an hour later, at about 1:05 a.m., a second shooting took place on the 2600 block of Main Street. The final event occurred at about 1:35 a.m. on the 200 block of S. Crowdus Street.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux addressed the investigation at a press conference. “The detectives and officers are still trying to put everything together to understand exactly what happened on each scene and to see if anything is related,” Comeaux said. Texas has seen several mass shootings this year, including the Austin Sixth Street shooting that killed three.
Police are still looking for at least one more person they believe was involved
While the police have confirmed at least 15 injuries, the actual total might be higher, as some victims reportedly took themselves to nearby hospitals. One suspect is currently in custody, and police are actively searching for at least one other person believed to be involved in the violence.
Dallas Police sources told the network’s local affiliate that a man allegedly claimed he was going to “start shooting” at one of the locations. The source noted that at least three people were killed at that specific scene. However, that account comes from unnamed sources, as police have released few details about the individual scenes.
Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson released a statement noting that such violence “is always unacceptable in our city.” Johnson added, “Public safety must always remain our top priority and we must continue to explore strategies to ensure that Deep Ellum can be a safe gathering place in our city.”
Both Mayor Johnson and City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert mentioned that the victims and their families are in their thoughts. “Dallas Police officers were on the ground and able to respond immediately. Dallas Police will continue to investigate this incident and work to bring those responsible to justice,” Tolbert said in a statement.
Deep Ellum was already under extra watch before Halloween weekend
After three deadly shootings in the summer of 2025, the city added officers and began closing several Deep Ellum streets at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, per KERA. Comeaux said the department boosted its presence again ahead of Halloween, as big crowds were expected with the holiday falling on a Saturday.
Violence has continued in Deep Ellum this year. During Cinco de Mayo celebrations, two shootings just blocks apart left 26-year-old security guard Joseph Gray dead and several others wounded, according to NBC. However, extra security officers were already patrolling the district that night because of holiday crowds, the Deep Ellum Foundation told CBS.
Shootings across the country left at least 24 people dead and 94 injured over Halloween, according to a tally by The New York Times. The Gun Violence Archive has recorded nearly 400 mass shootings nationwide this year. The group counts any incident in which four or more people are shot, not including the shooter.
