Those last few weeks of pregnancy can get seriously uncomfortable. As they navigate the imminent arrival of their child, some women try anything they can to get things moving along. However, one pregnant TikToker didn’t anticipate getting the police called on her.

In a hugely viral video that has amassed 17.3 million views. TikToker @bratz_baby had set up her camera to seemingly capture her curb walking before a cop car pulled in.

As the car stopped near the TikToker, they exchanged pleasantries before the cop revealed that somebody had called them because they were “worried” about her.

“Oh, no, yeah, I’m OK. I was just doing the curb walking,” she responded. She added that it is supposed to “induce” labor or make it easier, and that she was also doing a live.

They then talked for a bit before the woman added, “I thought something happened around here,” to which the police officer replied, “No, we just got a call. We just want to come make sure you’re OK.”

The footage was accompanied by on-screen text. It read: “Me curb walking for the first time at 38 weeks pregnant and someone decides to call the cops on me.”

The TikToker didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.

How did commenters react?

In the comments, most users were puzzled. “Isn’t normal to walk outside in the US?” one quipped. “Wouldn’t it be obvious that she’s curb walking to induce labor?” a second asked. And a third added, “People should get in trouble for wasting cops time.”

“Mind you, IT WAS A NEIGHBOR,” a fourth noted. “They could have come and checked on her themselves…”

And a fifth opined, “America is SO strange. The concept of a neighbor being worried instead of simply opening their window and asking if you’re ok they call the POLICE on you. That is such an aggressive escalation and concerning.”

Can curb walking really induce labor?

As the name describes, curb walking involves walking with one foot on the curb and the other on the street. As ob-gyn Lisa Jackson, MD, tells The Bump, “This lopsided walking helps to open the pelvis and, hopefully, allows the head to descend into a good position.”

In turn, midwife Rebekah Mustaleski added that “the head puts more pressure on your cervix, which stimulates the release of labor hormones and promotes continued dilation of your cervix.”

However, both of these experts noted that curb walking won’t necessarily induce labor in and of itself. Although Mustaleski admits, “it can help move things along.”

Still, she said that it can’t “put you in labor if your body isn’t ready to go into labor.”
