While Left Shark’s spirited flailing was affirming much of America’s belief in a higher power last Sunday night, many Twitter users were busy protesting the use of a recorded JFK speech from 1962 in Carnival Corporations’ Super Bowl spot.

Originally delivered before America’s Cup race in Newport, Rhode Island, the speech declares “We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch – we are going back from whence we came.” The spot took me a little off guard (I was at a party essentially celebrating different combinations of potatoes and cheese–not exactly the kind of place you expect to hear a dead president talking about primordial soup), but many viewers saw it as a deliberate choice on Carnival’s part to alienate creationist viewers:

Better start planning a Jesus riding a dinosaur cruise, Carnival. Either that or a colander-themed one.
