Stephen Colbert might be all super mainstream now with his network television late show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but he hasn’t let that get in the way of his true nerdy roots. In fact, he went ahead and flaunted it a bit when he talked about his fan theory for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to him, there’s going to essentially be a giant “polarity shift” wherein the light side and the dark side swap with the Rebel Alliance becoming the evil folks and the Empire switching to be good… it’s kind of weird, convoluted, and completely out of left field–very Colbert-esque, now that we think about it.

We’re not too sure about how true it might end up being, but… I mean, it’s Colbert we’re talking about. If anyone’s got stake in saying “I told you so,” it’s him.

What do you think of his fan theory, folks?
