Chicago woman paid $430 for a luxury hairstylist. Then, she got ditched mid-appointment

Daena (@daenascloset) from Chicago decided to treat herself to hair extensions from a luxury stylist. Although she was eager, Daena reported her disappointing experience with the hairstylist on social media.

“Story time by how I got scammed by a luxury Chicago hair artist,” Daena told TikTok. She explained that she’s originally from St. Louis, Chicago, and plans to move to Los Angeles. Her family is still in Chicago, so she went to visit. While she was in the area, Daena hoped to get her hair done.

“There aren’t many people who do microlinks or luxury extensions, let alone on Black hair,” Daena explained. She found Lena Marie Salon, specializing in tape-in extensions. She admired the stylist’s work and wanted her to do her hair. Daena said she hasn’t had her hair done professionally in seven years and has trauma regarding salons. Still, Daena wanted to go through with her appointment and asked the hairstylist for details.

Although the stylist said she didn’t work weekends, she allegedly promised Daena she could squeeze her in on weekends for an extra $100. Daena agreed, but the stylist added that to book her, the client also had to pay a non-refundable $430 deposit, which was half of the service. Regardless of the cost, Daena said she transferred the money via Apple Pay and sent the hairstylist an extra $10 for an undisclosed “fee.”

“After that, she never sent the address,” Daena alleged. She claimed that she had to ask for the address before the hairstylist gave it to her. Despite the initial hiccup, Daena still kept her appointment on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Her hairstylist had a lot of excuses

Daena said she arrived on time, but her hairstylist wasn’t there yet. Then, she allegedly received a text from the hairstylist asking to push the appointment to 9:30 a.m. because she was feeling sick. Daena commented, “That’s weird. I don’t really understand what an extra 30 minutes is gonna do to your sickness, but sure. That’s fine.” Daena got herself a smoothie, and eventually, the hairstylist arrived.

However, before starting the service, the hairstylist allegedly excused herself again, saying she needed to go to the bathroom. Daena claimed that the bathroom trip lasted 20 minutes. When the hairstylist returned, she pulled out the hair bundles she would use for the tape-ins. She told Daena her hair was too light for the tape-ins, so she had to dye it a darker black.

I’m actually very very upset, this video is a bit long but i cannot believe that a “luxury” hairstylist would treat a client like this?? lena marie hair salon chicago #stylist #blackhair #blackstylist #chicagostylist

Although she didn’t mind dyeing her hair, Daena was upset because the hair dye added an extra $100 charge. While her hair was being dyed, Daena alleged that her hairstylist excused herself so she could charge downstairs. Daena still had the dye in her hair, and her hairstylist allegedly disappeared for another 20 minutes.

Daena texted her hairstylist, saying that her head was starting to itch. The stylist allegedly asked if Daena had any allergies, but Daena believes the itching was because the dye had been in her hair for more than 20 minutes. Eventually, the hairstylist came back up, washed Daena’s hair, and gave her a steam treatment. When she put the bundles in Daena’s hair, the hairstylist allegedly complained that they were now too light for her client’s hair.

Getting ditched midway

The hairstylist allegedly said she had to buy hair dye for the bundles and that it would take two hours. Daena further alleged that the stylist told her she wasn’t allowed to stay in the shop in the meantime because she would be leaving for a while.

“In my head, this is a luxury service. You’re gonna take two hours to get hair dye and dye the hair, and you’re gonna leave me without a phone charger and throw me out of the f****** salon?” Daena said, frustrated by the experience. However, her hairstylist allegedly suggested that Daena should walk eight blocks down to a 7-Eleven for a charger. To make matters worse, Daena said she agreed to pay the hairstylist $100 to get the dye.

Daena ended up walking to the 7-Eleven, buying a $50 charger in the meantime. After three hours, she said the stylist hadn’t texted her an update. At that point, she told the hairstylist that if she didn’t update soon, she would ask for a refund.

Finally, the hairstylist replied, allegedly saying she had been messaging Daena on Instagram. One Instagram message allegedly reads that if Daena didn’t return to the store by 2:30 p.m., the stylist wouldn’t be able to do her hair anymore. “I see the message at 2:30,” Daena said. She claimed that the stylist didn’t try to call her either.

Eventually, Daena gave up and asked the stylist for a refund. Even though she didn’t fall asleep on the job like this braider from Los Angeles, Daena was unsatisfied with the service. However, the stylist allegedly claimed that she was “underpaid” for her services.

“Mind you, all she did was dye my hair and blow it out,” Daena said. Even though she didn’t get to proceed with the services, Daena said she still got the hair bundles. Eventually, Daena went to her cousin, also a hairstylist, and was pleased with the result. At the very least, her cousin fixed her hair disaster, unlike this woman, whose hair was fried by a North Carolina salon.
