North Carolina Woman Pays Over $200 for a Perm. Then the Salon Allegedly Fries Her Hair Beyond Repair and Refuses Refund: ‘I Am Shaking’
She saved $200 for a perm, only to come out of the salon with fried hair.

Not all stylists will satisfy their clients by the end of a hair appointment. But Milly (@millyismoody) told TikTok that her stylist ruined her hair and then refused to refund her.
“I am shaking,” Milly said online. The woman had tangled hair sticking up, trembling from her salon experience. She explained that it took her six years to get her hair professionally done. Outside of treatments, Milly claimed she had only been using black box dye on her hair.
“I really wanted a perm for a really long time,” she added. As a minimum-wage earner, Milly said she saved to get a perm from the Vanity Salon and Color Bar in Garner, North Carolina. When she was seated, she says her stylist did a curl test and asked her several questions about her hair.
She just wanted a perm
When asked if she’s bleached her hair, Milly denied. She claimed it had been ten years since her last. Milly also said she didn’t apply henna to her hair because the color “wouldn’t come out.” However, Milly confirmed that she box-dyed her hair. She allegedly showed the product to the stylist. Milly said she looked at the ingredients to see if there would be any interference with the perm and decided it would be fine.
“Then, she put the perm on my head. I think she left it on too long,” Milly said. She stated that she started feeling discomfort on her head. When the stylish started rinsing her hair, Milly claimed that she could “feel it” come off. Her stylist may not have fallen asleep on the job, unlike this braider from Los Angeles, but Milly was in tears after the appointment.
“I spent so much of my life trying to get my hair… healthy, long, and pretty. And I trusted this salon. I spent over $200 on this,” She said amidst tears. Milly said five days ago, after the appointment, she called back and told the stylist that her hair was damaged and asked for a refund or a workaround.
She was allegedly told: “No, I told you whenever I did your hair that there was a chance it could melt. And I don’t do refunds.” Because of the lack of resolution, Milly said she called the salon and asked to speak to their manager, who she says told her they’d reach out. She said she didn’t want to come on social media to talk about the issue, but five days later, Milly claimed that the salon had failed to contact her.
Struggling for a refund
Milly decided to call the salon again, and one of the staff members allegedly told her that the salon owner wanted to speak with her in a couple of minutes. She waited and took a fifteen-minute break from work, and yet, the salon owner didn’t call back. Milly wanted to speak to someone about a refund, so she drove to the salon to directly speak with the owner.
She said she waited for fifteen minutes, but nobody came to the desk. Milly said she went to one of the stylists to ask for the salon owner but was told she had just left. Milly asked for the owner’s contact number, and the employee allegedly refused. The employee also allegedly dismissed Milly because they were working on another client’s hair.
“It’s completely fried. Completely fried. I literally look like I am a wet dog that’s been electrocuted,” Milly said. She tried running her fingers through her hair, but it lumped at the top.
At the moment, Milly has yet to update whether or not she received a refund. The Mary Sue has reached out to the stylist for comment and will update this story if new information becomes available.
