Most of us know a hotel room will not be the cleanest place we ever sleep in, but hotels usually make it easy to push that thought away.

Fresh sheets, folded towels, and unopened toiletries can make a room feel ready for you, even if you do not want to think too hard about who stayed there before.

As it turns out, that is not always the case.

One woman who stayed at Caesars Palace in Atlantic City says she found several unsightly things in her room. The hotel’s attempt to make it right only made her more frustrated.

What Was Wrong With the Caesars Palace Hotel Room?

TikTok creator Ashley Grudzinski (@ashleygrudzinski) posted a storytime about the stay, which got over 10,100 views.

“Here’s an update that absolutely nobody asked for, but I’m gonna give it anyway,” she says.

Grudzinski says she had posted photos on Instagram showing what she found in her Caesars room.

“The stain on the bed, the fake eyelashes,” she says, adding that she was “disappointed” in her stay.

According to Grudzinski, Caesars reached out after seeing the post and told her someone would contact her shortly.

Monday passed with no response, and then Tuesday passed. She says she also tried calling the hotel, but no one picked up.

“The phone was just ringing, no one was picking up,” she says.

When the hotel finally called, Grudzinski says the offer was not what she expected.

“They offered to refund the $13 Wi-Fi charge,” she says.

She says the hotel also offered to credit the resort fee, which she described as $31 per day for two days.

“That is not acceptable,” she says. “Your bed was literally stained with, I don’t even wanna know. That is disgusting and disturbing, what was on the bed.”

After that, Grudzinski says she messaged the hotel account again on Instagram. In the screenshot she shares, the account appears to tell her that the team had explained everything that morning and provided the refund mentioned.

“No further compensation or follow up will be provided,” the message reads.

Grudzinski was not happy with that response.

“It’s a nasty response and I don’t appreciate it one bit,” she says.

She says she then disputed the charge with her bank.

“My bank had my back 100% and said no. Unacceptable,” she says. “They should have given you a refund for the entire amount because that is disgusting.”

What Should You Do in a Similar Situation?

If you walk into a hotel room and something is visibly dirty, the best time to act is right away.

It’s a good idea to take photos and videos before touching anything. Then go to the front desk immediately and ask for a new room or a refund. If you wait until after the stay, the hotel may argue that you still used the room, which can make the complaint harder.

If the front desk does not help, ask for a manager and get everything in writing. That includes the name of the person you spoke with, what they offered, and whether they refused a refund.

If the hotel still will not resolve it, you can escalate through corporate customer service, file a complaint with the appropriate local consumer protection office, or dispute the charge with your bank. You can find specific links on this Federal Trade Commission Consumer Advice page.

A charge dispute is not guaranteed, but photos, timestamps, receipts, and written messages can help show why you are challenging the payment.

Commenters Had Advice

In the comments section, viewers agreed that Grudzinski should have been offered more than a small fee refund.

One person said that it is better to complain during the stay, not after.

“I fear I’ve learned the hard way- that you have to bring it up during your stay they are a lot more compensating,” they wrote. “So now if something is offf I immediately say something so I can change rooms,or what ever the case may be!”

Another said the response alone would keep them from staying there.

“Horrible! I will never, ever stay there. Poor customer service!” they wrote.

“They should have comped the stay and offered you a comped stay in the future,” a third commenter said.
